Okay, the next revision of High Guard is imminent. You will find lots of tiny tweaks in this, following your suggestions, so keep a sharp eye out, particularly in the Weapons and Screens chapter.

A small but powerful change in the Design chapter is that m-drives no longer have a minimum size. This will help with small craft a great deal.

The two big things are the addition of the Ship's Computer chapter and Space Stations.

Space Stations contains all the relevant design rules and use in combat, but lacks specialised station modules (for mining, for example). They will appear in the next revision, but you will be able to at least start building and using stations, especially military ones.

The Ship's Computer chapter needs more software packages added (suggestions welcomed!), but should give you a very good idea of where we are headed with these.

Looking forward to your comments - you should be getting a mail from Drivethru in the next hour or so, telling you a new update is available.

Matt,

One thing I noticed in space stations supplement was the lack of scale in some things. When you are talking about a 5million Dton station the sub-systems need to be scaled up as well. So hopefully you'll have things that scale up or down. Like Power Systems that put out X pts per ton, or the fuel gathering drones, etc.

Also, any chance of stepping away for labels like "hamster cage", or "throw and catch"? They seem rather juvenile for the topic.

Throw and catch yes, hamster cage I kinda like :)

As for scaling, this is certainly something I will be looking at over the next week or so, and it will tie into capital ships and fleet battles.

We'll be moving to that kind of update system as soon as High Guard goes into layout (will be very soon now).

Throw and catch could be modified as smallcraft launching and capture facilities.

Those are called launch tubes. :)

But the throw and catch system was in reference to (sometimes) linear accelerators launching loads of ore or whatever towards refining stations, where they would be caught (i.e. thrown and caught) by another device. It was an idea originally coming from how to get materials off the moon to orbital stations for processing. And you could use it for other things, too.

Hoping to get you guys another update, hopefully in PDF format, before Christmas. Spinal weapons are changing in damage, and 'proper' rules for space stations are now in.
