Playing BF Evo in the US

Hi guys,

As we have warned in the past, supplies of BF Evo are initially going to be quite limited. We have already asked the factory to increase production, but there is only so much we can do.

Response from European distributors has been astounding, and between them they have already snapped up around 90% of the first run on pre-order. So, if you are in Europe, you should be well catered for (until, that is, the box sets disappear off your retailer's shelves!). You will also find most European countries will have native language translations in each box set. . .

The situation in the US is going to be quite tight. We are encouraging all retailers to let their distributors know they are interested in stocking this game, because unless they pre-order, it is going to be a pot luck situation for everyone, which is not good.

At this time, the only way we can guarantee US gamers getting hold of BF Evo in January is if they pre-order from our web site before the end of November. We hate to say this, as we very much want to support retail stores, but our first thought has to be to the guys playing our games.

No doubt a lot of interest from US retailers will spur the factory into bigger production.

Besides, it's time the yanks got something after us for a change...

Maybe the title of the thread should be "Not playing BF Evo in the US"?

At least this explains why I'm getting emails from prospective customers in the US asking about shipping costs :)

As far as retail store support goes, there's a huge difference between supporting stores and putting them into baby walkers. If the US stores haven't put pressure on US distributors to get things preordered, they've only got themselves to blame when they miss out and their customers order online. Hopefully they'll start yelling at their sales reps, although it sounds like it'll be too late for the first wave.

-Shrug- Eh well at least we can just sit back and see if the game is as good as everyone is thinking its going to be. Though it is good, it will be interesting if support for it can be generated over here. Well more importantly, how long it will take. There has to be enough support that anyone that wants to jump into it can, rather than having to bug all your gaming buddies to buy the game with you...a very tall task for some.

I don't know about other areas, but here in Vegas there is already a good sized group waiting for its release. SST has been something of a hardsell around here, but BF: Evo looks to be a totally different story.

Have Retailers recieved promo material or anything yet? If this game is going to revolutionize the gaming industry as we hope, it needs to be pushed HARD. A tight initial release in the US is really going to hurt things in the beginning...

I may not be able to get this game locally at all. I know at least one of the local store owners is gunshy about Mongoose's miniatures offerings because he has a bunch of Starship Troopers miniatures that aren't selling.

I am a little worried about the effect the tight release could have as well, but at least Mongoose is being very open about it. Here we are two and half months out and they are telling us that there could be an issue and how to hopefully work around it. IMO that open communication is a definitely a good step on their part.

Unfortunately, I can understand this as well; SST has been something of a hard sell around here as well. Do your local stores have any kind of gaming space? It might be an idea for you and your friends to play some games in the store; seeing the game in action is a good way to drum up interest. Another idea would be to offer to run some demos for your local stores; have you ever considered joining the Mongoose Infantry? That way you could run demos and games to build up interest and support for BF: Evo, and be compensated for your time with demo credit as well.

I am working on getting ready to run demos for it now. Because of various circumstances, it's not ready for prime time yet. The models aren't finished. I am not sure when they will get done. Maybe in a couple of weeks and maybe not. I am looking for a painter for hire to help clear some of these projects but no luck so far.

Space varies widely between stores. One store has lots of space while another has very little. I know I can run this or anything else I want to at the open game night at the first store. Finding space to do anything at the second store is going to be a project.

I am not going to join the official Mongoose Infantry though I am going to follow their guidelines since they are quite sensible overall. I don't want to hassle with being an official demoer. I am not even sure when this stuff is going to be ready.

:? I am assuming that you are using proxies for the minis? Or do you have connections that we don't know about... :P

Sounds very familiar. We have one store with almost no space, another with a great space with several table, and a third also with a great gaming space but a totally hostile attitude toward all things Mongoose. But hey, two out of three ain't bad. :D

Understandable, especially if you are using your own minis. I believe that you are required to use the appropriate minis if they are available; fairly common demo policy I believe.

By the sounds of things, I figure the Starship Troopers miniatures he'll be using are his own.

Well, given the fact that this thread is called "playing BF: Evo in the US" and the fact that the rules are supposed to be posted next month, I figured that we were talking about BF: Evo.

Which game are you looking to run demos for night owl?

Starship Troopers. Responding to this

I don't have the rule or anything for Battlefield evolution. Besides, with that game not being able to get painting done wouldn't be an issue.

Ah ha! Since this is the BF: Evo forum, I though you must be painting up modern day proxies instead of the official minis. See what happens when you post in the wrong forum? Us old geezers get all confused!

It's a shame, but it makes sense. All of my local retailers have pretty much flat out said that after SST they will not be stocking MGP miniatures any time in the near future. Bummer really as I was pretty hyped about this game. I've been waiting for something like this for a while. I HATE pre-paints and I was STILL excited about this one! Oh well. It's probably just another sign that I need to grow up and spend more money on food & clothing instead of games... :(
