Plastic fighter bases

Mongoose
Hi,

I really hate the metal fighter bases that come with the last batch of mongoose fighters. Does anyone know where I can get hold of any plastic fighter bases? I would need quite a few

cheers,

james

I can probably do about fifty for trade if you like.

Have made all my bases from perspex.... 1" perspex square (Cut up a CD case to cheat... ), drill hole in centre, and insert flight peg.

Next take one of those 1" squares and cut into four triangles (Straight cross cut) and drill hole in centre.

Place on top of flight peg and 'Hey Presto!', now they look better and you only need 3 fighters per base, doubling your fighter capacity.

Slipway did a production run very similar a while back, but since he's passed beyond the rim... , this was the adaption I came up with for my own flights.

Just a thought, give it a try and see what you think!

I'm doing my EA, Dilgar and Vree fighters three to a base, using GW slot-less Slottabases and paper clips. Drill three holes in the base, clip the clip into three lengths and using modelling putty, fix into the holes. Then clip the fat stands from the bottom of the fighters, drill a hole to match the paper clips and glue them in place. They look good, honest.

That works to... :D

I just can't justify wasting 6 fighters to a base, when I can 'Fill the skies with a veritable cloud of starships!'.......

I'm sure I'll get some pics of my EA Third Age up when they're done. All being named after Arthurian characters, led by the absurdly cool EAS Pendragon, Warlock-class. 8)

I'm basing my fighters 3 to a plastic 'reversi' counter I bought a bag of from e-bay (£5 for 400 I think it was). The counter is the size of a two pence coin and about 5mm thick.

I've also got a roll of magnetic tape, which I've used a large airbrush paint cup as a dye to hammer out magnetic disks to stick on the bottom.

I'm also toying with the idea of printing out some starfield disks, with faction logos and white dots to show where to drill into, to insert the fighters on steel wire.

I'll post up a step by step if anyones interested.

I did all the flights for my various fleets like this

The bases are small gw ones. And I got the triangles from gf9 for something like 15cents each. Anyhow given how many flights I have it worked out cheaper than using six per flight. Even taking into account the cost of the bases and triangles

I think you were referring to Timeslip, who lives 'round my way --- I could see if he's still running these out or not.

BTW if anyone has any regular fighter bases, or the small round metal big-fighter bases going spare please let me know as I'll take them off your hands ;)

I think the small metal big fighter bases are just the small metal bases, none of my 20 WSC-L fighters came with metal bases.

I did get 16 metal hex fighter bases, but managed to purchase 16 plastic ones to replace them should I choose, before the end of production.

Do you have a link for the gf9 bases?

Rich

I'm afraid not. It was a while ago that I got them. They are actually the 'pinned' tokens from Flame of War. I spotted a pack at the local gaming store and thought "what do you know, those triangles would be just right" It would have been super expensive to buy them like that, so I contacted the guys at gf9 directly and arranged to buy them as blanks. The guys at gf9 are pretty good to deal with.

It looks cool seeing them swarming about the table.

Something tells me a few of my old CD cases are going under the old knife :)

But thanks guys, I'll still contact GF9 and see if they still do them or could do them as a specail order.
