Just got my Panzerschiffe resin ships in the mail the other day. Today I decided to paint and mount them. Here's a pic:

In case you can't tell it's the Exeter, Ajax and Achillies opposite the Graf Spee.

I added some thin wire to repesent the masts. The bases are made out of 2mm thick styrene card.

Nice Job. A little basing tip you might want to try is smear a thin layer of polly filler over the base and make it wave like and then set your ship in it, then use the exact same paint job you have done, dry brushing the wave tips white. Trust me, it will look awesome with those ships sitting in it.

been thinking of ordering some ships from Panzerschiffe. How long did it take for the order to come through and did you run into any problems wiht working with the minis?

It took the minis quite a while to reach me (four weeks). However, that is because Paypal refuses to provide sellers with my correct address. It's some kind of glitch in the system because no matter what I try, Paypal tells sellers to send the stuff to my old address. Fortunately my old address is next door and the postal codes are the same (the house numbers are different). I believe that they would have arrived in about a week if Panzerschiffe had the correct shipping address.

The minis were very clean and I could find no air bubbles, warping, flash or mangled details. I didn't do a single thing to them to prepare for painting.

Highly recommended.

I've purchased a number of Panzerschiffe's minis over the years, particularly carriers and "what if" designs no one else makes.

Their detailing isn't as good as some of the metal minis (duh) and they can appear a little squat sometimes, but their casting quality has always been first-rate and they are simple and easy to paint.

Their prices are quite reasonable, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to get into naval gaming and looking for a nice fleet without an enormous outlay of cash.

They used to publish an inexpensive set of Campaign rules and a series of simple historical mini-campaigns (Bismarck, Java Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal, the Med) to go along with their tactical rules. Production quality was pretty bad (mimeographed rules and hand-drawn maps) but the mini campaigns actually worked well. We ran a couple of them at our old LGS in LA using a different set of tactical rules, and they were an absolute Hoot to run and a lot of fun to play. (Yes, the Japanese can lose Midway and the Java Sea invasions! :wink: )

I haven't seen a Panzerschiffes product list in a long time and so don't know if they still put out their Campaign system, but if they do and it hasn't gotten too pricey they're worth a look.

Think you guys have sold me on them. I do like the low prices of them...just wanted to make sure that the minis were good quality.

Now I have to convinve the wife that it will cost me less than $100 to get a full fleet and it will be a worthwhile investment :shock:

OK, I just had a stroll around the Panzerschiffe site and they do still publish their campaign system: they're calling it their "Strategic System" now.
Looks like their production quality has gone up considerably since 1973 ( :lol: ) but those are the same seven mini-campaigns they had before. They would work very well with VaS for a simple historical campaign, and at $15.00 for the strategic rules and all seven scenarios they're still dirt cheap. 8)

(Hmmm.... and they now have those Lexington-class "never were" CC's..... )

I'm playing with a sometimes faulty memory here, but I might have made the master for the Lexington for Panzerschiffe back about 20 yrs. ago. I'm at least sure that I made up the masters for the "big brothers" of the Lexingtons the S. Dakota (I) class of six. The stock numbers are very close to the Lex's and during that time period I had already made up six scratch-made Lexington's as at that time they were not yet out. I think he might have already had the Tosa master done up (I can't believe I don't clearly remember the ships I made up for him, sigh). Another master I'm sure of that I made up was the KII class of four ships (B-507 in his catalog). I had contacted him because I had wanted to collect all of the "never-weres" to do the "Pacific Jutland" big-gun slugfest. I have 32 ships between the US and IJN projected forces. I'm sure I'll be making good use of these babies with VaS. I just need to make up a long list of 'butterfly effects' as an excuse for the 1922 Washington Naval Treaty never happening, the premier designers of the more powerful naval aircraft dieing off under curious circumstances and instilling a paranoid fear of the other navies to steer this version of history into being :shock: . Now all I have to do is to steal a TARDIS(tm) :twisted:.

BTW, I like your tag. There are many taken down from Samuel Eliot Morison's histories, but one of my favorites is a 'salty' chief running by several scared young sailors in a 40mm AA mount- "Hold on a little longer boys, we're sucking them into 40mm range!" :shock: :lol:
