So it seems. A personal attack is something, which requires some kind of personal involvement on both parts. A summary abuse of ALL people of a nation is much easier to perform, as there will be no possible defense at all. This is the way of the cowards, the chauvinists. sorry, but censorship applies to the flow of information between one group and another, when an embargo is placed on the avalibility of information of interest or required, by a third party, in the interests of the third party.
Censorship as such probably does not apply to a Message board hosted and owned by one party, for the free and but regulated use of another party - As the information is owned by Mongoose, and the method of communication is by their right of admission, then they are not censoring information, rather they are enforcing their guidelines of membership. Indeed the level of critisism that Mongoose publishing have allowed to be posted on their product, suggests infact that they are not censoring information, rather attempting to keep the flow going.
One thing must be learned in regards to free speech, and that is that not everything is worth saying or hearing, nor does it give you the right to say what ever you wish.

Well said. - The lack of which regarding the personal responsibility of the author of the disputed pages is the reason of existance of those cases of chauvinistic abuse and wanton censorship in the first place. Until the release of the tainted Earth Alliance Fact Book, the forum was quite a nice and focussed place for discussing everything about Mongoose's RPG products. Sadly, there is no sign of personal responsibility of the author to be found.hassanisabbah said:

Actually it was for your information, for you to read.
There are laws on libel and slander (at least in the UK). Saying that you disagree with the content is one thing. Saying things about the author of a content is another unless you can prove they are true.
This isn't a public forum. It's a Mongoose forum. Mongoose makes the rules here. Mongoose and this forum are UK based. They are perfectly within the right to censor. You wouldn't catch a company like GW putting up with this level of criticism, especially directed at one person.
This said, you wouldn't go into a stranger's house and start calling them names, give them grief, insult there intelligence. If you did, to paraphase G'Kar, "There would be a satisfying thump as they hit the floor" . Especially if you were spending a bit of time in that same house, at their cost (hey, servers cost money to run, you know). Some people seem to sadly think it's okay to do that in cyberspace. Oh well.... :roll:

Besides, the only reason you are posting to these boards is because Mongoose is letting you do so. If you continue causing trouble, they could just as easily solve the problem by banning you by your IP address(es). Remember, they are a business, not a democracy. If this were my business or my boards, you and your ilk would have been gone a week ago. I'm honestly surprised that Mongoose is willing to continue putting up with this abuse.

this topic is getting in a way i don't really like .. but i feel like posting to give my opignions on two things i believe important :
first, from the moment this forum has been set in motion, the administrator has to deal with the fact that people WILL argue about choices they (the editor) made, with or without tangible things to say, that's another problem, but when you make an open dialoge you have to let people express themselves. Yes a forum is a place of democracy in the strict sence of the world : a place to express ourselves freely. Apart from insults, racists opinions of the like, if someone isn't able to express himself, that's sensorship.
second, that makes no sence to come, post a topic WITHOUT any substential "evidence" to back up on what you wish to say and troll anybody that doesn't agree !!! a forum works on a mutual respect and intrest shared by all of the users. The life a a public place like this isn't made by the admin or the moderators but by the users who come here and post, exressing themselves. SO this forum WILL turn into what we (the users) wil let it become.
trolling isn't a constructive sollution to enhance the game. On the other way, if the moderation protocols are too stricts, then users won't feel free to express themseles and it will end up shutting the forum from constructive discution.
i wish this place to stay as it is : a non-perfect zone of exchange betwen people with a shared interest in a role playing game set in the babylon 5 environnement. And i intent to help, as little as i can, to do so .

Ok, Mongoose messed up. Maybe political correctness (which itself is a violation of freedom of speech) hasn't made it to England yet. Lucky England. I'm sure they regret the incident and will very likely not repeat the mistake. The author has even apologized; I read it.
So, we all know now that you're opinion on this topic is. Can we PLEASE move along to something else?
I completely agree with the decision to lock threads containing personal attacks. Such attacks almost always occur when the person making the attacks can't come up with a viable response to whatever argument they are in and want to basically derail the discussion. Personal attacks are also "fighting words" and they are NOT protected by the Constitution, which, as a privately owned message board not funded by any governments, doesn't apply here anyway.
Censorship is wrong; enforcing a civil atmopshere for discussion is NOT. So, find a more civil way to make your points and everything will be ok.
