Pavis Rises Cover

I am really hoping this one sails with the Glorantha folk. I cannot tell you how much sweat and late nights have gone into this book to make sure that I did as much research as I could to sew up the details. I attached nearly everyting in the book to future events covered by 3rd Age materials or information given to me about upcoming products by Moon Design. I could not have done it right if it were not for my mate Loz, the guys at Moon and Greg Stafford.

It is probably one of my best adventure campaigns to date, and BOY is it Gloranthan. Stuff happens in this campaign that would have myold D&D group cocking its head and saying "Metaphyiscal Puzzles? Gods reincarnated? Universal Men? Huh?"

In fact, I love this campaign book enough to answer the next five posted questions about it in the guise of one of the characters from the book; just to add some flavour and some suspense to you Glorantha folk who want to know more...but don't be surprised if the answers are a bit Puzzling.

Lord Great Burin answers this question:

Can we expect lots of snakey goodness from machinations of the EDR?

'Snakes are an abomination of Orxili, brought forth from the Primal Ooze to break infinity and test the strength of Our Souls and Adherence to the Ten Step Path. Goodness is an illusion. Celibacy and Purity are the Only Ways of Truth. There is only the Will of the Cosmic Dragon and those who command it.

Come hither, frail innocent and let me cleanse you of your impurities. It is a Ten Step Programme of Unstruck Sound. You shall know Truth...'

Even though Loz grabbed this one just fine, Question #1:

Can we expect lots of snakey goodness from machinations of the EDR?

Rathimus Purejoy, God Learner Insurgent says:

'What else can we expect from so-called enlightened beasts that traffic with savages, beasts and trolls? It sickens me to live amongst them, but we all have our parts to play.'

Is there anything to do with the giant cradles? After all, the God Learners gave its nickname to the Zola Fel.

Question #2:

Is there anything to do with the giant cradles?

Great Khan Joraz Kyrem says:

'It was the cradles that brought the Learners, and the Learners that forced us to come here. If it were not for the Zola Fel, Pavis would not be here today. The city, or its founder.'

Question #3

Are there any Nysalorian Illuminates (as opposed, naturally, to Arkati) hanging around Pavis in the Second Age?

Six Threats Ended, War Dragon of Pavis says:

'I refuse to believe such things. In turn, because I do not believe or see them, I can think of them as dead. Like so many things I never have to look upon from Rainbold and Folded Wing.'

Hi,

Ian Thompson's fanzines were the first to start exploring (a bit) 2nd Age Pavis, for example, with "The Rough Guide to Pavis City", http://www.city-of-pavis.info/pbrvolrg.html

If I remember correctly, in those works, Pavis and his "Project" are presented more as a "branch" of the EWF than as the draconic-centered cannonical EWF. I.e. Pavis was more focused on achieving Harmony, mixing the powers of the Builder with the Grower's, and restoring the Green Age, than on being one with the Cosmic Dragon.

So how much does "Pavis Rises" follow Ian Thompson's ideas on "The Pavis Project"? Looking at all those dragons on the cover of "Pavis Rises", I guess not much, right? :(

And how useful will this book be for time-travelling between 2nd and 3rd age Pavis?

Question #4:

So how much does "Pavis Rises" follow Ian Thompson's ideas on "The Pavis Project"?

Hardeye Flintnail says:

'Pavis the Builder and I have worked longer than you have been alive on the Universal Man Project. Do not despair, Unity is coming...one way or the other.'

And how useful will this book be for time-travelling between 2nd and 3rd age Pavis?

I'll let Loz answer this one, as he is planning on running his guys through it, I believe. :)

My players are in 3rd Age Sun County at present, busy investigating the Old Sun Dome, but I have a cunning plan to mess with their heads... All depends if they Follow The Light...

Ok, I see what you intend to do, but what if none or not all of your players follow The Light? :?:
And if they do follow it, are you going to run then all the "Pavis Rises" scenarios and go back to the 3rd Age again?
And how are they going to go back to the future?
I think the coolest thing to do would be some "Day of the Tentacle"-like messing with past and present events. But that would require a lot of preparation...
BTW, have your players been somewhere else aside from Sun County? What is their main story arc?

If they don't Follow the Light (you know the one I'm referring to, I think), then they don't Follow the Light and I'll find another way of helping them advance their story.

Their background is this. The sister of a Zebra Tribe shaman has disappeared into the Big Rubble on a personal spiritual quest. Brother has gone in pursuit and found, through the help of his allied spirits, that she is held in Blind Kings Hill.

Venturing there, he meets-up with a Dark Troll messenger come down from Dagori Inkarth looking for Mistress Korazang of the Sazdorf Clan - the current occupants of Blind Kings Hill. Turns out that the Sazdorfs are awaiting the return of this Mistress Race Troll and discovered that she has been spirtually imprisoned in some way. The Zebra Shamaness has been captured by the same thing, so the PCs are looking for a way to free the two captured priestesses.

All the know is that they have to undertake the Blue Serpent HeroQuest: they don't know what that is, how to do it, or what it concerns. So they've gone looking for answers at the Old Sun Dome...

Wow, that's interesting. I mean, no official book says what's inside Blind King's Hill, so I'm very interested in how your campaign develops. Even more so because my players haven't visited those ruins yet! I have some ideas as to what may be inside, but I hope I like Bryan's ideas best provided "Pavis Rises" includes any reference to Blind King's Hill...

So how many scenarios does "Pavis Rises" include? And won't it be difficult for you to adapt those to your 3rd Age players?

As for my 3rd Age campaign, I guess we have played a bit longer around Pavis than your group. The players are basically kethaelans and praxians with strong anti-Lunar feelings that have seen themselves involved in quite a few adventures; I started with "River of Cradles", then "Sun County" and some "Pavis & Big Rubble" and now he have changed to Raus Fort in "the Borderlands". And I have still many official scenarios to run, so there's a long way yet till Pavis city is liberated!!!
:D
And that's why I'm looking forward to read "Pavis Rises", of course.
BTW, I can tell you more about my campaign if you are interested.
