Orions and Tholians, how are they doing?

So, has anyone out there played a few games using the Orion Pirates and/or the Tholians? They're obviously not very comprehensive right now with only three ships each and not all of their normal rules/options, but I am still curious to see how people have done with them.

I admit I've yet to play a game with either, but I'm toying with taking a horde of Orion ships for the Campaign game my FLGS is starting up. That said, I'm a rather worried about how the Orions will fare in CTA:Star Fleet. In general they're mean for commerce raiding, not standup squadron/fleet battles with dedicated Navies!

Orion ships are small, somewhat fragile and -1 Initiative combined with a lack of Command ships might really hurt them (though with their numbers they may not mind the lower initiative). Still, I've got some ideas on how to put them to use.

Though there is one rules question I can put forward, in a campaign game, should Orion ships be able to switch their weapon options each game? I want to say "No" for fluff reasons (as the ships rarely swapped out weapons since it took a while and was expensive) but rules-wise there is nothing regarding it one way or the other as far as I can tell.

Regardless, I am eagerly awaiting the Battleships! book and the expanded Orion fleet list and rules. Yaarrrr

One thing i did note is that Tholian's are seeker-proof as long as the web generators are running. Gorn and Romulan are down to just Phasers against them :(

Seeker-proof?

The current Web rules only covers the Port and Starboard arcs of the DD and the CA. Still quite a disadvantage but hardly immunity.

Well it's not quite that bad. Corvete has no webs and the other two have only at port and starboard. Get(somehow) into front or rear and it's toasted tholian!

We've used them a couple of times (we have a very keen orion player in FC who still likes them in ACTA as well).

They are not bad. The one time I'e played them I went with the classic phaser boats which was nice as it means power drains are pretty meaninigless - Phasers only, oh go on then :)

Its not far off with agile ships - with the Tholian squadron in out game if he wanted his CA safe from seekers he could do it (so the oppo sent in the Klingon to deal with him), the only time Romulans took a shot was when the player deliberately let them to get hs own shot.

We had two salavage cruisers in the last game and he went 6AD of drones. Very potent when it worked, less effective against Feds.
