OOB for Warfare?

Newbie coming in keeping his finger crossed.

Btw see you saturday at reading. (and not the week after at DADI.COM this year)

Here's hoping if it's available I can order my Italian airforce from tumbling dice this weekend! I've already ordered a bunch of Italian light cruisers on the off chance they're in the book!

Got mine too.
Two things pop out for me - 10 inch rule aplies to everything, including torpedoes - that spells death to convoys.
Number two - torpedoes do double damage to civilian ships - that kills off civilian shipping for me from a gaming perspective.
Pity, cos I made a whole load up for convoy scenarios and I bought some Flower class corvettes.

More civilian shipping in the back, seems a waste of effort, especially as in the scenarios listed they can be up against nine U boats.

Loads of ships listed, which I guess is what it's all about and comprehensive rules on aircraft and coastal. Quite a few Brit ships get radar added and the Flower has Sub hunter trait.
Admirals section looks cool - but not read it.
Good campaign detail and shore battery rules.

I have to go back to trade today, so might get a bit more digested tonight.

I saw Swiss Tony got a copy too, so be interested to hear his views.

Some dodgy graphics and pics in there - look at the pixelated Soviet flag for instance..
But seemed good value to me, just in the pure amount of ship info ancd interesting stuff like coastal, advanced aircraft and split allocation points, I spent more money on my lunch than the book..

I'll leave it to all you experts to spot the mistakes or errors in the fleet lists, to me it's all numbers

Just my quick take. As usual looks like they got foreigners to proof read. Some really basic spelling and grammar errors. Not spotted many stat errors but there is one glaring one is the USS Alaska. Not a big problem as the stats are fine but it lists its main armamment as 5.9's, should they not be 12". the other gripe and I am not sure if I am the only one but the batch of OOB at warfare seemed to me to not be of the high quality that we come to expect of Mongoose. Basically I looked through about a dozen books before choosing what I thought was the best of a bad bunch. The problem I am referring to is the front and rearcover were all warped.
Was I the only one to notice this or am I being too picky. Excellent amount of ships stats although not enough Italian destroyers although destroyers are much of a likeness.

Got mine Saturday with minro warping to front cover but nothing a spell under a pile of heavy books shouldn't fix.

New to the game so can't comment in great detail - except as per my other post I just don't get the amendments to observation aircraft, the wording is spectacularly unclear imo.
Overall it looks good, and it's nice to have amendments rather than a full 2nd edition making the 1st book redundant, although having it split as such is a bit more difficult for newcomers to piece the bits of rules together. Looking forward to using all the new bits though.

the quality of printing in mine is not 100% - the border ships fade out in certain areas like a bad photocopy, front and rear covers don't align and are warped.
BUt I got it and these things don't affect performance.

Just a bit gob smacked at the +1 for torpedoes!

yeah I noticed the fading on the ships too but my main gripe was the warped covers and yes I checked and found that mine too was not aligned properly but only noticed it after you had mentioned it gazman. Still a happy bunny though as having made an extensive check of my model ships I can't find any that are not included apart from my soldati destroyers for my Italian navy. But as I mentioned earlier destroyers are very similar so will fudge the stats for them and I can't wait to try out a scenario for Operation Cerberus now that stats for MTB's and shore batteries are included, that was an added bonus for me that I wasn't expecting

The +1 for torpedoes has been fixed for the later printings. This was meant to be just for turret and secondary weapons. A case of what seemed perfectly clear to those who read through it being as clear as mud for anyone else. Apologies for that.

They were hot off the press which has unfortunately led to the warping. Best way to resolve this is to run a damp cloth on the interior of the cover and put a weight on it overnight, this will do the trick better than weight alone.

That poxy Russian Jack just came out bad for no apparent reason. Fixed now.

I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of Italian destroyer classes. The French now have 3 classes while the Italians are still stuck with just the Navagatoris. I would have liked to see the Soldati class, at the very least, included in OOB too.

With the formulae used for VaS ships, there can be little or no variation between Destroyer classes - similar speed, armour, armament, crew, etc. . .

Many of them are very much interchangeable.

Indeed, to get a better representation of the differences in classes you really need a finer statting system or a variant aimed at destroyer actions (hmm, I wonder where one could find one of those :D)

You are right about the latter (the former would change the fundamental nature of the game). We concentrated on the big ships because, well, they are sexier :)
