Number of fighters per base

Da Boss

Mongoose
In a few threads there are discussions about the number of flights that can attack a ship. Would it be easiest to have a set number per priority level to avoid any problems on this score with bases / counter size / shape.

for example:

Patrol Skirmish 4 flights
Raid /Battle 6 flights
War Armged 8 flights

thoughts? :)

unfortunately this goes out the window the minute you add in t'bolts and firebolts as well as other longer ranged fighters

Hmm see what you mean - how about thats the number per range

so 4 flights can attack a Patrol/Skir ship at range 2", 4 more at longer range and so on?

:)

which in turn can be solved by only applying the rule to all 2" range (or less) fighter weapons. Maybe change their range to 'contact' in the next fleet book so people immediatley see which weapons need contact with the enemy ship and which act like normal 'ranged' weaponry

personally I'm all for something like this, it makes sense, really*

*it makes sense in gaming perspective only, in a "well x number of furies could attack a G'Quan as seen in episode Y" it makes little sense at all.

well in a tight packed circle you can get far more 4" range fighters into play.
with fighters that have a range it really doesnt matter as you measure range to the stem. only really comes into play when talking suicide fighters, breaching pods and fighters ignoring stealth so this isnt needed 90% of the time.

not really as like i said 90% of fighters have nothing to do with bases and can even stack up ship bases.
most fighters measure to the stem - the base thing effects 3 aux craft - gaim fighters, dilgar fighters and breaching pods.
or any fighter overcoming stealth. if they are in range for guns, they are in range for guns, lets not put artificial limits on them. or shall we say only 4 ships can attack any one ship too ;)

...the base thing effects 3 aux craft - gaim fighters, dilgar fighters and breaching pods...those that efectively physically contact a ship
and 2+1/priority level seems good
removes the base size asthetic mismatch for priority level ships and their size...i.e old Olympus

gets my vote

nope as i said just physically contacting ones are restricted to
2+ 1/priority level
as you said...
the range thing covers very well how many flights can range in to fire
although now as distance is measured from any flight edge you probably can get a far few more in

Yes to sum up

fighters with 2" weapons range (contact trait?), breeching pods and suicide fighters are limited to the following numbers attacking per round per ship, regardless of base or counter size:

2+1/priority level
ie:
Patrol = 3
Skirmish = 4
Raid = 5
Battle = 6
War = 7
Armged = 8
Ancient = 9

Fighter with more than 2" range on their weapons are uneffected by this rule.

further thoughts? :)

fighters with 2" range are uneffected due to actually having a range, they measure to the stem so you cannot limit them.

Ok yeah see what you mean

Breeching pods and suicide fighters are limited to the following maximum numbers which can attack per round per ship, regardless of base or counter size:

2+1/priority level ie:

Patrol = 3
Skirmish = 4
Raid = 5
Battle = 6
War = 7
Armged = 8
Ancient = 9

Fighters with range on their weapons are uneffected by this rule.

further thoughts? :)

Higher priority level doesn't necessarily equate to a larger ship, just more powerful (usually larger, yes--but not always). Why would an Omega Command be able to be attacked by more than a regular Omega?

And how many suicide fighters can attack a single fighter flight?

<Omega Command be able to be attacked by more than a regular Omega? >

well it is bigger as it has twice the rotating section

seems an elegant solution not to be embroiled in symantics

Bad example, yes the command omega does have a different model. But what about:

Hyperion vs. Rail Hyperion?
Avioki vs. Batrado?
Sunhawk vs. Darkhawk?
Ashinta vs. Tinashi?
G'Quan vs. G'Quanth?

symantics..ok exact answer model reps ships of two different levels of priority
they add a down stairs toilet...hence bigger

2+ 1/priority model works
