Nova 2e Armament

Just reading through the article on 2e in S & P. Noticed the comment about the Nova's weapons fit, which is admittedly only one sentance and has no great detail. They are only Plasma and Pulse weapons mentioned.

Since there is evidence from ITB that during the Earth-Minbari war that Nova's had beam weapons as shown below (these pics actually point out the presence of Omegas during the war... but that's a different question.)

Ignoring the circled Omegas the Nova at the bottom left is clearly shown firing beams from its forwards weapon mounts. Just wondering if this is being taken into account in line with the new drive to get a better match with the show?

Erm you do know Novas have LASER PULSE ARRAYS right? And as such CAN fire beams in game, but if theyre taking them out in 2nd e then that kind of scuppers all the silly 'Omegas should get minibeams' talk... If you change one thing because it appeared in the show you cant then go and change something else that was clearly show just for the sake of it!

This is why I think the Omega SHOULD NOT have mini beam

Oh I know they have laser/pulse arrays now...

But this sentence (although it is a little low on detail, so maybe I'm reading to much into it...) could suggest that won't be so in the future...

The Nova in the Early Years, for example, has rank upon rank of plasma cannon, while in the Third Age list, these are replaced by pulse cannon.

No mention of lasers there. I was attempting to stop them doing exactly what you said...

Nick

Laser/Pulse arrays were dropped because they weren't very good. They might be reinstated though

I think the presence of omegas in that scene "taints" it somewhat, but i accept your argument

What about Mr Steels Book? the Earth Minbari war will that book be conpatable?

the E-M War will not be compatable with 2e unless Matt says otherwise
i have argued that the prototype ships should make up at least some of the early earth lists but not with much success rate

Well, with the advent of unique ships (the Excalibur) we should be able to see the Blackstar, the Dusk Coutari and so on in the fleet lists of their respective races...

have asked for the dusk coutari as well...
the latest news is they will probably not appear in the 2e book but maybe in an S&P article

and the Trigati, Ingata, Moutshin etc etc it would become silly! I didn't like the approach that every named ship has something unique, can't they just be a famous ship!?

Obviously not, otherwise why have the unique trait? *cough* excuse to give EA a Victory *cough*

we've been over this so many times........ there was a tv show called "Crusade" and even though I think it was awful, it featured the Excalibur as an EA ship........

You yourself have pointed out the difference between ships that are on loan, or temporarily used by certain people and 'main line warships' that belong to them :)

1 per fleet seems fun - of course some are more difficult than the others............perhaps a adolescent rebellious Shadow Ship - don't most teenagers go through a "paint it all black phase" Extra AD etc but is only allowed out for 4 turns..............

and having 15 different versions of the Sharlin isn't the way the game should go........ it's like Warhammer and its special characters :(

Or, after 4 turns, and adult Shadow Ship comes onto the board and orders it home, before apologising profusely to all the other races for the trouble it's caused.

The crew was EarthForce, wasn't it? Even though the ship belonged to the ISA she was seconded to EarthForce use and command. Thus she was an EA ship...

Damn, I need to stop agreeing with EP... :?
