Not Much Going On

Anybody Else get the impression Mongoose have got bored with RQ and moved on? The release date for the Players Guide has slipped back 2 months and there's not much going on we haven't heard about since before Xmas. Beginning to feel like they've moved on to the next big thing.

That wouldn't make much sense if the game is selling as well as Mongoose claims it is.

Perhaps the delay is more due to things kike the secrecy about the Eternal Champion series of books, or time being spent on finishing up SpaceQuest or that Arthurian setting that was in the works? Or maybe DBC was originally slated to polish some stuff up, and it is taking them time to reassign the workload. Or maybe they are having teething pains with the new in house printing division.

MRQ has only been out for 7 months, I doubt that Mongoose has moved on just yet.

I haven't really gotten that impression. Players guide is done, the holdup seems to be the new printing facility - this is affecting other lines as well. Uz and Clanking City are still on the schedule. Jrustela's author is Gareth Hanrahan and he admits that he is the holdup there. I beleive Hawkmoon is also Gareth and Bryan Steele, so that is all in the works.

Aaron (DBC) leaving is probably the biggest setback - he was working on the Orlanth Campaign and going to be doing the Elric Book. He was RQ's most prolific writer to date, and will be missed by all.

We know that there is an Aldryami book being worked on by Shannon Appelcline (he is doing one for both HQ and MRQ). There was a Dragonewt book attributed to Aaron on Amazon but who knows where that is.

There are Pirate and Oriental/Ninja supplements on the books - though the latter was on DBC's plate. And a Gloranthan Boxed Set was said to be in the works in January. I think Byan Steele was doing the Pirates but I am not positive.

RQ was their top selling RPG Game last year and it was only out half the year. I expect it will have steady support for at least the next year.

Pirates is mine; it's slipped a bit 'cos of the Jrustela delay, so I'm only getting into it now.

Hawkmoon's been done since sometime last year; so have a few other books. I'd say the delay is more printing than anything else.

When will we see the first gloranthan scenario? I really want to see if they can keep up the quality of previous RuneQuest-Glorantha based adventures.

Pirates be mine, matey. Nutin' shivers me timbers like bad grammer I says.

Sorry about the mistake there. It seems like you get the seafaring ones.

Good to hear.

Well DBC was definately the author of the first three linked adventures. I have no Idea if any got finished or not, but his leaving could be a holdup.

It is too bad, we have so many Gloranthan sourcebooks and no adventures all this time later.

eh ?

If they make lots of books, people bitch and whine. If they dont make lots of books, people bitch and whine.

All the fundamental stuff has been covered in the initial frenzy. Now they can slow down and get to grips with new things.

:) Nice to see that MRQ's authors are confident enough in their abilities to be able to admit when a delay is in their hands. With other publishers everyone would have beene blamng everyone else.

On the subject of the current hiatus, as far as I can see most of the delays are 'New Print Facility' related and probably what some of us expected, what with Mongoose having to bring a new production facility on line. It always takes longer and is more problematic than even the most pessimistic of the creators imagine.
 I am just glad I have had a chance to refresh my wallet before the next onslaught on it. Uz, Guide, Clanking City, then Pirates etc. etc. - it is going to be an expensive year!

Hi guys,

Panic not! The new printing facility is about to come online - you will soon have all the books you can handle!

Gareth has more than enough goodwill built up at Mongoose :)

Mongoose setting up it's own printing facility might just be a very savvy move. Not having to ship the books over from the US could be a real money saver. If Mongoose could manage to pass that savings on, and sell RPG stuff for significantly less than their competitors, they might just end up the dominant RPG company in Europe.

Depending on how much the facility can handle, Mongoose could even do print runs for other gaming companies.

A bit of the original topic but...

Anybody Else get the impression this forum is slowing down? I seem to remember much more activity and passion on the MRQ forum before.

SGL.

Well, six months after the initial release, MRQ is no longer the hottest gaming novelty on the net.

Or perhaps everybody is having a bug infestation in his basement. Anything to do with this, Trif?

Well... after having read all the Gloranthan books cover to cover several times I guess I really need the Players book because Gloranthan character generation still isn't crystal clear to me. I would also like some GodLearner/EWF-centred scenarios. It's pretty hard to imagine any when you've spent your whole life fighting evil Lunars or stupid barbarians :P

I suggest you read issue #10 of Tales of the Reaching Moon. It describes two very interesting God learner artefacts the size of a small Island that have survived till the third age. It has interesting ideas for a second age campaign, too.

It is also the first Gloranthan zine illustrated by an Italian artist , AFAIK 8)

I think in the good old days of yore when there were great battles and debates there was always an insect banning that coincided with the forum conflagrations.

Perhaps the reason it slow around here is that the bugs have become complacent. What we need is a good beetle banning.

Or it could be nothing new has come out lately (though I think CoG 2 got off lightly, it is worse than the core and CoG 1 as far as rules clarity goes).

Well the trouble is, no-one at Mongoose seems to have the answers.

I mean, there are obviously rules issues outstanding with CoG2. But the author can't answer them because the rules don't match the manuscript. And the Mongeese can't or won't answer them, because they don't seem to have anyone willing to step up and answer rules questions, or discuss possible errata. All we ever get is a deafening silence.

They need to have someone monitor the forums occasionally, who has the authority to answer rules questions. Until they do, things will just drift... :(

Then we'll end up with more deleted threads to though. Last time we got some answers concerning Cults 1, they weren't very constructive.

SGL.

errata? what's that?
