NKVD Units

Any idea for organisation and Traits for an NKVD unit as my mate has a dozen or so models and would like to use them.
 
From my limited reading on these guys, fairly light'ish infantry.
Roughly an equal chance of being fanatic but unskilled, or being hardcore fanatics.
 
Give each unit Fearless and maybe the command squad would get Fanatic. I'd like to see an option for the command squad to take extra NKVD officers so they could be detached and lead squads.
 
Ah, I was thinking NKVD army. Then I would say that they have an NKVD officer always leading them, so as long as he survives they are Fearless. There's not much in the way of morale rules, but maybe allow them to fire on a friendly unit and if they cause at least one casualty, the unit becomes Fearless for a turn. <shrug> You could make it a Blocking Detachment and have a Maxim HMG as part of the squad. This would allow them to reach out and hit friendly units with the Fearless stick at longer range. (A downside to this might be that if a unit that has been made fearless in this way is reduced to below half by friendly or enemy action, on its next turn when it is no longer fearless, it is destroyed as the troops scatter or are mown down by the NKVD for retreating. I would call this rule "Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place." ;))
