Mongoose
hey i havent gotten a friend to play wit yet and i want to sart the lami should i get the klendatu book witha box of men or should i get the big starter box? (i have nothing yet)

Hm... you definately need the main rulebook.

Problem is for LAMI you need the Klendathu Book and you have no use for those 16 CAP Troopers in the basic box.
Though I must admit it's never bad to have 1000p of CAP Troopers, you can also use them to support your (very immobile) LAMI Platoon.

I would go for the basic box, just because the 16 CAPs in there are 1000p, where 40 Men of LAMI are just about 500p.
So you have something to learn the game (CAP Trooprs are perfect for this) and a big bunch of points to field while slowly building up your LAMI.
And later you can use them still, in a more supporting role.

Get the starter box, as you will need 2 sides to have a fight. It's a good value. Just abit of warning though. The models are need assembly. While it's a pain in the neck to put them together, it allows for tremendous customization of the figures, no 2 figs need to be the same. I think that outweighs the pain of assembly.

Also heads up, if your new to this forum, you may not know, that starting in August, Mongoose will be releasing pre-painted box sets of the figures. So if you don't like to model or paint, then you might want to wait till then.

Cheers, Xin

The starter set would probabaly work out better with the bugs and otherstuff to grasp the rules, and the rules seperate are quite expensive.

You do need LAMI and Klendathu seperate, and are essential.

No, they will probably be more akin to the standard of the battlefield evolution models. Never seen them myself, but they are meant to be okay to good.

You'd probably get a better idea if you started a thread about the prepaint quality in the battlefield: evolution thread.

the prepaints will at least not be bent, as they will be made of virtually the same quality plastic

as for the paint job- who knows

I would get LAMI boxes and wait for the new rule book etc.

If only because as you said you have no one to actually play with?

Just go to a game store nearby and try and make some contacts, or go to cons, or bug your friends to play. You never know when you will get a convert. College gaming societies also work.
