a)Is there anywhere i can find commonly found house rules for VAS?
My friend and I found in our first game we were accidently using turn rules as per Order of Battle anyway, as it made alot more sense.
I use the turn template theres a nice one at Litko but you can make one with foamcore also.
I am wondering about limiting japanese torpedo counts during a game too... US ships seem to have alot of tubes for only one shot!
Japanese only get a second shot no more.
In addition does anyone know where I can print off Ship templates? I seem to remember finding a database which had all the ships starting sheets. It seems a pain to write them out each time you play.

My final question is about detection.
Can somebody explain it in simple terms?
Radar
Detect the enemy ship on the roll of a 3 or more. Once Detected, an enemy ship remains so. Also at Bad Weather or night, though all normal modifiers to attack will remain. If an enemy has been Detected by radar in Good Weather and during the day, the penalty for attacking it at Long Range is ignored, while the penalty for attacking it at Extreme Ranges is reduced to –1. A ship that is Detected at night or during Bad Weather will be automatically Spotted by the ship that Detected it, as soon as they move within 20” or one another. Note that a ship that detects an enemy ship with radar may not pass this information along to other ships, allowing them to fire at it – they must all Detect the enemy for themselves before they attack.
spotter aircraft allow spotting but not the -1.
In our test game only my ships had radar. Does that mean my opponent pretty much could not detect me.? I think we forgot to apply the benefit of radar at the end of the day. ( +1 to hit at long and extreme ranges )
I can't figure out if you need to detect every ship with every ship of yours or not, during fine weather?
There is no need to detect ships in good weather, but firing is limited to 30" range unless spotters or radar are used.
