Newbie Centauri Fleet

Smegish

Mongoose
Well, my friends and I are about to start a campaign, and for some foolish reason they all want to start big rather then something small while we figure out what we're doing (none of us have been playing more then a few months). The other players are Narn, ISA, Drakh, EA (dunno what age) and Shadows.

So this campaign is beign fought over several systems rather then one, and the fleet is 10 points at War level, rather then Battle. So here is my fleet, this is actually about the 3rd revision, but I think I have it about right:

Adira
Octurion
2 Secundus
2 Tertius
2 Magnus
Elutarian
3 Sulust
2 Centurion
Prefect
5 Darkner
5 Maximus
4 Corvan

I tried the Vorchans (and its variants) in the practice battles we've had over the last few weeks, and they tended to get killed by the first weapon pointed at them, so I dumped them in favour of the maximus, which looks like so much fun.

Well, feel free to tell me I'm a cheese-muncher for taking the Centauri Beam Team, but until take it away from me in 2e, I'm gonna play it while I can.

Pretty good selection I'd say. You can get more ships than that, by dividing your points in a more cheese-mongery way...

Your points spent:
1,2: Adira
3: Octurion
4: 1 Secondus, 1 Magnus, 2 Darkner
5: 1 Secundus, 1 Magnus, 2 Darkner
6: 1 Tertius, 1 Elutarian, 1 Darkner, 1 Maximus
7: 1 Tertius, 1 Sulust, 2 Maximus
8: 2 Sulust, 2 Maximus
9: 2 Centurion, 2 Corvan
10: 1 Prefect, 2 Corvan

Points 8 and 9 are 2 Raid+2 Skirmish... they could instead be 1 Battle+1 Raid+2 Skirmish. And point 10 can have an extra Battle ship, for free!

cool, so I can have a Balvarix anyway, didn't take one in the initial fleet cos my fighters would do bugger all vs Narn and Drakh, so I didn't really want to spend the points on a carrier, but if I get him for 'free' then WOO HOO! :D

Actually point nine is twp raid and two patrol, so you could have an extra Skrimish ship as well.

As far as fighters and Narn go, if he is shooting at your fighters he is not shooting at your Corvans, which with low hull and damage scores are a good target for emines, in which wise I might suggest buying a Vor whatever scout as the extra skirmish pick, ok not as cheap but it won't explode spectacularly to an emine volley

This is of course speaking from a Narn Perspective.....
Go away, oppress someone else!!

Ohh yeah, forgot Corvans were Patrol
Actually you might want to get a few wings if fighters in there, too.

right.... well I can take 2 wings of fighters, should they be just Sentris for the numbers, or Rutarians for the hope they might do some damage....

Looks like no one else has really good fighters except the ISA - Earth are as good but prob have more - usually I go with Raziks for the dogfight boost but may be OK with the Sentris.

Be a TRUE centauri, and include 6 vorchans, and then leave them in hyperspace . . . wait until your enemy has moved forward some, and then dump them out behind him. Watch his skin turn white and his trousers brown; and then laugh all the way to planetary subjugation heaven.

Vorchans are lovely, you just gotta play them to their strengths, which once you know how is relatively easy.

Plus then, you can't be accused of being a beardy "beam team" wielding git, which to be fair all centauri players are anyway. Its only because all the other lot are jealous!

The difficult art of Vorchan-fu. They take a lot of work to get the hang of, but are very much maligned.
