New Vree Fleet in the New Year

High Sierra

Mongoose
ok. so I got Centauri - been difficult to get a hang of how they play (probably because I'm limited to the Fleet Boxset atm)

I have on order (and hopefully will be picking up in the next couple of weeks) the Vree Fleet boxset.

Now, I was wandering about looking up pics and stuff for Vree to work out a paintscheme.

A couple of the guys at my club are very much: 'Thou shalt paint according to Canon lest ye be cast unto a thousand hells for eternity'

but tbh, I want to do something different. I dont want people to come to the gaming table and say 'Oh look - flying saucers'
I want them to look, and look again, and then say 'oooh! cool flying saucers!'

Now of course this means that I'm actually going to have to concentrate when I'm painting the damn things. As for paint scheme..........

1) Black/Flouroescent Orange
2) Black/Fluoroescent Green
3) Silver/and a lovely deep dark red
4) Light blue/Dark blue
5) Grey/White

read this as primary colour/secondary colour
the secondary colour being used on features on the model. Except for the first 2 options I will be using some form of shading to really bring the colours out.

I'm really taken with option 1. If I get it right, the models should be striking to look at but I just dont know.........

I like option 1 but then again I love anything orange :)

I also like doing things differently from canon so long as the scheme looks good and is internally consistent (i.e. the colour scheme "works").

I say go for something different and just explain that this is a different faction/time period/camoflage/whetever!

You have enought doubles in youre fleet that you can make 4 or 6 different painting. helps to identify the ships.

I like option 3 or 4, 3 being my first choice. I like the orange and black as I love my Bengals. Black I always have trouble highlighting. Screw canon, I paint for what I enjoy, they are my models. I got enough of that with the historical gamers. Enjoy yourself.

hmmmm

I do like my fleets to be fairly uniform in some way with their paint schemes - i think it looks better on the table.

I am really, really taken with the idea of really bright, day-glo orange on the models. THe black/orange is going to be quite hard to get right - mainly because I'm going to have to highlight the black properly to make it look good.

What about A grey with white panels and orange features?

A dark grey with orange could work well and is easier to highlight. I wouldn't do too much white detailing though as it won't go so well with the orange.

I like #2 as well. I haven't seen a Vree fleet painted that way but I saw someone with a 40k Space Marine army with that color combination and it does look nice.

That may look too much like Early EA ships (other than the orange features obviously), but if it looks good to you go with it!

I've done something similar to #2 with my vree. Gray base w/metallic highlights, white trim, and a really obnoxious green. Almost everyone who has seen them goes ehew do they glow in the dark and then how did you do that.

As for painting CANON its easy because you have lots of visual refs. I pick a scheme I like and try to be consistent thru my fleet. Bottom line is they're your minis do what you want. :)
