New Traveller PDF - SITREP 2: Aster

Excellent, one step closer to seeing a compendium of the SITREPS in printed form.

Cheers reigning in from the OTU side of the field. Keep this man, Martin on the payroll, he does Traveller really well. I just wonder what is his secret agenda...for once he revealed he worked on T20 to get 1248 published. And, everything that was great in T20 did end up in 1248. So are you Greater Mongooses/Mongoosi privy to these secrets...

Dont try and work out Martin's mindset, that a direct path to the asylum

I've just been reading thru the 2 sitreps, and....much to my surprise...I find....amidst the ironmongery reviews...a.... LeMat pistol under an assumed alias. Martin, you gun-porn-pandering hack...A freakin leMat. ******SIGH*******
Not the most obscure gun ever, but a perennial favorite of PC's when they find out about it. not surprising given your twisted and perverese love of paddle powered steam warships, I suppose.

Yes. Yes I do. Look for the 9 shot revolver firing a shotgun flechette round. Thumb selector, even.

Granted, it isn't cap n' ball; still........geek geek geek. 8)

Yes, there's a Le Mat. And a Colt revolver-carbine.

I am indeed a gun-porn pandering hack.

I'm a little puzzled about the revelation that I once revealed that I did T20 to get 1248 published. I don't recall ever saying that, and it's not true.

Fact is, I did T20 because I was offered money to do it. Which is ironic, given that QLI still owes me money. I was pushing 1248 at the time and working on T20 may have helped me get it through, but these were separate projects:

T20: QLI's project which I was supposed to get paid for working on.
!248: My project which I pitched to QLI while I worked for them.

The difference is subtle but important.

I'm not on the Mongoose payroll as such (ie at all) but I freelance on the Traveller line and get paid for it, so that works out OK as far as I'm concerned. I do have more Mongoose commissions in the pipeline.

And yeah, I do want to see A2089 back so I can publish the novel series....

A MJD, what's the deal with your sig? I've never read Behind the Claw, do people have a problem with it or something? I love a good controversy.

Some people do. One guy in particular has been on at me about it for over a decade. And of course, when I accepted the contract that was the cause for one of the two occasions when I've received death threats from Traveller fans.

That's just WRONG. BtC was a very good book, and properly GURPS Traveller. If it isn't properly Traveller, then nothing else of G:T was, and that means that I wasted quite a bit of money...

Crazy. I thought it was just a sourcebook or something. Did any of them give a reason, or was it something utterly stupid and vague like "It's just not Traveller" or something?

Haven't you heard?

Martin J. Dougherty personally and willfully ruined Traveller all by himself. EVERYONE knows that!

Seriously, there are some people out there that have a personal vendetta against MJD. It seems to have gone WAY beyond screaming emails etc into personal attacks and as Martin said, actual death threats.

Anyhoo, Mongoose seems to like his work, so he will probably be around for a while longer destroying Traveller one publication at a time...

It varies from idiot to idiot. One death threat was simply because I was going to do some work for GURPS Traveller (!) back in the beginning. Another was because my vision of the New Era clashed with the political overlay a player had created (Regency = USA, all good and wonderful and lovely and perfect and nothing bad can happen).

Others hated some aspect of a book - sometimes something I had nothing to do with. I got slammed for creating the stupid idiotic non-Traveller Dandelions (Marc Miller created them in the Traveller Adventure).

Others had a go because I got Aramis totally wrong in BtC (I didn't; there are two worlds called Aramis. I even got them round the right way - one is mentioned in Mercenary and one is detailed in TTA).

I've also been vilified for trying to get QLI to pay me what they owe (it's unfair to Hunter Gordon to do that apparently, and it's not supporting Traveller because it undermines QLI - not that they need any help on that score really).

In short, all kinds of trivial reasons. The usual one comes down to 'you went anf published an offical version of a world I'd done differently'.

Hey, if MJD is wrong then I don't wanna be right.

Martin, that sounds awful. It's one thing to disagree with someone's work, but it's quite bizarre and disturbing to take that disagreement into a whole different level re: death threats and the like.
