New To WaW

Mongoose
Hello all :)

I have been thinking about getting into WWII gaming for a while, and I finally took the plunge and got the BE WaW book last week (and a couple of boxes of 1/72 scale figures to get me started) :D

Anyway, I have a quick question if anyone can help (and apologies if this has already been addressed or if I have simply missed it in the rules)...

If a unit includes different weapons with different size fire zones (say a SS squad with 2x MP40 (3") 1x MG42 (6") 3x Kar-98k (3"), and 4x StG44 (6") for example) ...must they all use the same (and thus the lesser 3") fire zone for a standard attack? (i.e. if they want to use the two different size fire zones then they must effectively 'split' their fire and take the associated penalty - even if centred on the same target).

Welcome aboard! :D
They created two firezones, in your example make two rolls or use different coloured dice. Personally I prefer the 2 colour dice variant, it speeds up gameplay a bit.

Thanks for the info...

...so if they are effectively creating two fire zones with a normal attack, do you then allocate the damage dice as if it were a single fire zone (and as such the closest model need only receive one damage dice) or as two separate fire zones (and the nearest model would need to receive at least 2 damage dice i.e. 1 from each fire zone)?

Thanks in advance :)

You are creating one firezone since the attack come from one unit with one action, you are only able to assign dice from the "Auto" weapons in the bigger 6" zone. If you are using different coloured dice you will not have this problem.

As a slight aside ...I mentioned in my first post that I'll be using 1/72 scale models for the game - so if anyone is interested, I might start taking some photographs of the models as I paint them and keep a kind of 'log' to show how I'm getting on (as I obviously have a long way to go yet before achieving my goal of 2 x 1000 point forces).

I don't have a lot done yet ...apart from these guys:

...but at least I've finally got something started :)

As far as I am concerned, DO IT!
I always like to see good painted minis... :D
