If something like this has been written up before, apologies. I may have to add 1 or more spell prereqs. Any suggestions?

NEW SPELL

Bounty of the Briny Deep
PP Cost: 2 PP/gallon of salt water; 1 PP/food unit of marine life
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 50 rounds (5 minutes)
Range: Touch
Target: 1 gallon of salt water, or the ocean surface (see below)
Duration: Instant
Saving Throw: None
Prerequisites: Knowledge (nature, the Open Main) 8 ranks, Knowledge (arcana, the Deep) 5 ranks, must have spent at least 3 consecutive months at sea.
Magic Attack Roll: sets the DC for the Reflex save.

With this spell the caster can turn one gallon of salt water into fresh, drinkable water. The water may be taken into a vessel such as a bucket. The caster places a finger or hand into the liquid and utters arcane syllables under his breath.

Furthermore the caster can also use this spell to effectively summon edible sea-life (e.g. fish, sea turtle, squid, octopus, dolphin, porpoise, seal, mollusc, sea urchin, eel, shark, etc.) to his immediate location, be it a ship at sea, or a stretch of beach. For every power point spent one food unit worth of sea-life appears within 5d10 minutes after casting. The creature(s) are entitled to make a Reflex save to elude capture. If they make the save they may swim away unharmed, but if the Reflex save is failed they are docile and will not attempt to defend themselves, bite or escape capture.

I should add that the concept of Food Units is discussed in detail in Hyboria's Fiercest, page 49: "A food unit takes care of the consumption needs of a standard Medium size creature." While at sea, it is most likely that the common source of food will be fish of various kinds. A fish is regarded as enough to provide one FU. As for the Reflex Save of the typical fish, I would have to leave that to the creative GM.

An enterprising GM could engineer a similar spell for fluvial, or lacustrine environs.
