Mongoose
I have a number of questions about the game (VAS; Age of Dreadnoughts or VAS;AoD) which I just bought. The last time I played anything like this was back in '53 when my dad (Fleet Air Arm) picked up a number of lead models from over in Gosport and set up a game for my brother and I. I'm trying to introduce my grandson to this but the rules I remember are rather simple compared to what I have read in VAS;AoD. Specifically, for my first question, I am having trouble with the use and value of dice especially the attack dice (AD) and their values. I can't seem to square the explanation on page 7 with the item "Scores Over 6" on page 8. Is anyone available to discuss this with me?

Thank you Mathew for responding. I'm having a problem with the rules in that they are like a dictionary which tells you how to spell a word and what it means but doesn't teach you how to write. So I have all these rules but no elementary step by step instruction on how to play a game. What I need is a simple introduction on how the game is played ... step by step. If you saw my grandson and I playing the game you would be appalled. it is reduced to it's most elementary level of single dice throwing and ignores all qualifiers. As rank beginners we need an excruciatingly detailed level of hand holding . For example, what does d6 or 1d6 or 2d6 mean (well, I did figure this out after a while).

I have to go now (the grandkids are going to bed) but I will pose a couple, or more, questions later.

What I need is something like this:

s t e p ... b y ... s t e p ...

The clerk who sold me my cell phone said he had never seen anyone text ... sooo ... slowww ...

There's a world of people out there who would love to play this game but don't have the background or the nomenclature.

Gotta go.

Question 2.

I'm setting up a fleet as described on pages 51 and 52. I have 5 points. If I follow the directions at the top of page 52 I am restricted to the described splits for one War point. That's fine for the first two choices: (2 Battle(1/2 point each)) or (1 Battle (1/2 pt each), 2 Raid(1/4 pt each)). However, for the third one (1 Battle(1/2 each), 1 Raid(1/4 each), 2 Patrol(1/16 each)) this totals 7/8 point. Since I have 5 points and could chose this option 5 times over then those 1/8 points missing in the third choice could total 5/8 point which would give me 2 more battle and two more patrol ships. Not allowed? Must absolutely follow allocation as on page 52?

Question 3.

Are the ships listed from Pp 72 to 78 considered Patrol Ships for the purposes of the Fleet List as described on Pp 51-52?
