New look at scale (Using a MGP resin master)

ok at tourney i got my hands on 2 preproduction masyers for the USMC tanks and the Challenger

and nice they are to

i looked up the dimensions of the challenger 2 on the neet then divided that by the dimentiosn of the tank (working all in mm.

my results were over the entire tank an average of exactly 1:61 scale

this would bring your average figure total height to 28mm from tip of toe to top of head, not tip of toe to eye ball as per many minatures do for 28mm.

a cap trooper is toe to shoulders at 30mm without a base and this would represent a 6' hight trooper.

these tanks are very acurate for scale and the height is right. a made a carbourd trooper to the right height to compare height with tank (as no figs are that short in my collection) and it marred up with photos of men next to the tank from the same angle.

so dont fear the tanks are the right size, its just a case if the troops are the right scle ie 28-30mm toe to top of head instead of toe to eyeball.

also watch this its fun

Code:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YZNFTPg1pys"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YZNFTPg1pys" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Also remember, when you look at the miniatures they are standing on a base that raises them up a few MM, so they do appear taller then they would normally be.

I think most manufacturers of 28mm figures measure sole of foot to eye not to the top of the head due to variation in headgear types. I was hoping the vehicles would be 1/56th scale as that appears to be the majority decision with other companies for use with 28mm.

yeh i know but what im saying is that 28 mm in the traditional way ie toe to eye is to tall for the tanks, but 28mm toe to top of helmet/head is correct for these tanks, a small differance yes but thats what is causing every thing to look wrong.

I suppose you pays your money makes yer choice. I will stick with 1/48th - 1/50th scale myself as I like the bulk against my TAG Desert Rats and 1/56th scale for the rest of my armies. Shame about the 1/61st scale thing though.

Cheers
