New lonewolf Roleplay wish list

I am sure you guys have all heard the news of a new lonewolf rpg. Personally , i never got into the ogl d20 stuff but this could be promising. i wonder what everyone would like to see in a new rpg, that they feel the existing rpg just didnt achieve. You never know, they may just take note.... Here is my wish list:

More Races: I would like the chance to play all of the canon races, including Noodnics, Dwarfs,Ogrons, Kloons, Szalls, Drakkarim, and even Giaks(for an unusual campaign), without them tied to a single career.

Not so High Fantasy: Please dont make all the character careers or classes uber powerful. I think it would be great to play more normal careers, such as thieves , gamblers, rangers, soldiers etc, that feature so commonly in the books.There seems to be a tendancy with the current rpg to boost up canon classes beyond their level in the books to keep up with the kai. maybe keep kai lords as powerful, but their restrictions keep them balanced with more ordinary characters-"Sorry Bright Fox, but i am afraid
I must send you on yet another probably fatal quest. You cant go gambling
with your lesser noble fellows..."

Grittier combat: the lonewolf books are splattered with gruesome deaths and dismemberments, yet the d20 hit point/EP rules are too abstract and clinical for my liking. It would be good to have some sort of critical or injury tables- maybe something like those used in Devers excellent "Combat Heroes" game, which expands on the Lonewolf mechanics. Dont have the books with me, but I remember some pretty nasty wounds........

Better Illustrations. Get the Chalkmeister back. nuff said


On the mechanics of the new system, i do like the sound of that. There are many "roll a single d10" systems already (Agone,Unisystem, Edge of Midnight etc). the books generally use a Roll d10, add modifiers, and refer to whether you got, say a 4-5 or 10+ etc. It would be pretty easy to roll a d10 then add a stat (rated 1-5) and a skill (again rated 1-5) to get a target number (assuming an average stat+skill of 5, so 10 would be your average
skill test, 12 for a bit harder, 15 very hard, and 18 near impossible. Maybe a 0 allows a second d10 roll, while a 1 minuses a d10 from your total.

Mechanical Wish list:

More Weapon skills:CS broken down into more weapon skills. So maybe your CS is equal to your Dex Stat, plus your Weapon Skill, whether thats Bow, Sword, Axe etc Why? So you can create a more varied adventurer, such an acrobat trained in the throwing knife, or the Dwarf hammerer etc.

Less Rigid Character Developement: allow players to develope in a much more personal and individual path, rather than rigid classes, where after a few adventures, you get to choose from a limited set of choices. If you spend a session on a pirate ship, why shouldnt you get to increase your swimming or Sailing skill by a point.

And include my Sharnazim, Sand Mage, and Kai Hunter classes. :) Hey, it is a wishlist, right?

It's fine to me like it is, since I use the generic d20 rules to cover areas not touched by the rulebook. However, I'm not going to shun buying an improved and/or expanded edition. After all, I gave my money to George Lucas a few times over the years, why not Mongoose?
 
I though the idea behind this 'new' set of rules was to make the RPG more easily accessible for players of the Gamebooks. If they didn't managa to get into the d20 lite rules that we had so far, I doubt that the next version the Mongooses produce will be featuring a lot more detail then the one right now available, we're looking at somehting, that will be even simpler and more simplyfied, I don't think their will be more complicated and detailes skill and combat options, maybe some new character options...maybe...

Let's see what snips and pieces (and previews :) ) we'll get will show before getting our hopes up dispite my bad feelings for this or be disappointed altogether.

Maybe I'm totaly wrong here, and the reworked RPG will be a milestone connecting the gamebook players to the roleplaying world after all.

I'll allow the Mongooses to surprise me and will follow everything new LW with great interest...
 
I can't see a complete new game system being any more complicated than the LWd20 stuff we already have (even if I'd really love it if they used RQ/WFRP rules (but only if it was propper RQ, not Mongoose RQ with the total life hp missing and weird stuff like that)).

The reason I can't imagine the new system being any more complicated is that they've stated that it's for beginners (so it'll be simple).

I too would love to see race and class being separated. I would also like them to stay away from the uber overpowered classes (because they don't need it).
 
These are some excellent suggestions so far, but I have to reiterate that the new RPG rules will have to be very simplistic, or at least "rules-lite," to better fit in with the gamebooks. That doesn't mean the game shouldn't be detailed. There could be lots of room dedicated to races, geography, items, magic, etc but with simple (and expandible) rules.

Yep but this was a wishlist, not a geuss list, right? :p

The original rules are pretty simple and there's a lot of room for development between that and d20 rules. If LW rules are a 1 and d20 system rules are a 10, on the below scale I think the new rules shouldn't need to be any harder than a 3 or 4:
