hi im quite intersted in starting my story with b5 call to arms. can you tell me what books i need to start play?. thx for any help

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

All you need to play the game is the Revised Box Set. All the rest of the books expand on this set of rules.

The Revised Box Set comes with a huge bundle of counters, so you can play the game straight out of the box. And test the many fleets to get the feel of the way they play and an idea of what minatures you may want to buy, in addition to the ones that look really cool.

Sky Full of Stars, expands on the rules by adding, amongst other things, Space Stations, Scout ships, boarding actions and more detailed planetary assault rules. It also massively improves the fleet lists available and expands on the campaign rules. I would highly recomend this book if you like the game.

Armageddon, expands the game by adding the Armageddon level ships, splitting the Earth Alliance fleet into 3 distinct eras, revamping the Vorlons and Shadows, adding the Ancients and tweaking the fighter and Stealth rules. This book is not necessary unless any of the updates would be of interest or use to you.

Dilgar or Drakh fleet books, provides the full fleet list and necessary rules for using the Dilgar or Drakh as a race in the game.

Earth-Minbari war, provides a bunch of campaign scenario's and some special characters for the Earth Alliance and Minbari.

thx for help. btw im interested only in narn fleet, i dont know haw she works here, but g'quan ships are most nice ships in b5 and i always love them :)

I've recently been inspired to pick up A Call to Arms as well. I ordered the revised core box and armageddon. Is there anything that I would need SFOS for? It sounded like everything from SFOS was in either the revised core or Armageddon.

Thanks

Welcome to the boards Gargoyle and wilq.

Sky Full of Stars is the biggest supplement for the game. It includes ships that were not in the Boxed set (Shadow Omega, lots of variants, new League ships), new rules (space stations, boarding, planetary assaults, charcaters, new traits and special actions). These aren't reprinted in Armageddon, so SFoS has the most new stuff after the boxed set.

No Unfortunately.

You will need to pick up the Rules books for Drahk and Dilgar if you want the rules for those races.

Gargoyle - SFOS is well worth it :D

The Narn fleet is quite enterertaining to play. Whilst they do not have active defenses like Interceptors, Stealth or GEGs, they do have a larger weapon loadout and more crew and damage points to compensate.

Ship-wise, they excell at Skirmish level with some very powerful vessels, and the Bin'Tak, the second best ship at War Level, after the Sharlin. G'Quan's and G'Lans (a G'Quan variant) are solid fleet choices, whilst the Var-Nic is also good in a different way. They are lacking a competent carrier vessel, but with the availability of energy mines in the fleet to ensure fighter superiority, there is really little point in them building one.

Fleet elements will always vary with what priority level you are playing at, and what race your opponent is. However, I'm sure you will always find a few dedicated 'regulars' cropping up in any fleet you take. Reaverman is probably the best person to get detailed advice on the uses of individual Narn ships.

You'll need SFOS, Armageddon is a supplement that really requires SFOWS. Otherwise you'll be missing the rules for how Troops work and all the SFOS only rules.

SOFS is really worth it though.

and how is with the vorlon fleet in call to arms?. they are my second favorite race in b5

The Vorlon fleet are big, tough and nasty but slow and cumbersome. However it took until Armageddon to get right (and you need both Armageddon and SFoS for the full rules).

Yeh finally i decided to colletc Narn, i love G'quan design, shadows will be second one someday. I do not hawe all 3 books yet, so can somone specify me Narn ships?

Hi, I'm also a prospective newbie to ACTA and have a few questions. My first question, is there a fleet that is pretty balanced offensively and defensively? Second question, do fighters play a heavy role in the game? Finally my third question is about the miniatures themselves. I've heard mixed things about there quality such as heavy flash, warping, and mold misalignment. I already play Starship Troopers and those miniatures seemed descent. Your replies will be greatly appreciated.

Hi welcome to the game! (Ninja, I still have most of my gear...)

Perhaps the best one from this perspective is the Earth Alliance, they have some very well protected (strong hulls and interceptors) and well armed ships (nearly as britly as the Narn). They are just not fast or manoeuverable.

Fighters play as big or as little a role in the game, depending on how many and of what quality you can bring. EA will likely always have a solid fighter horde, unless your facing the Narn and their energy mines.

It really depends, some of the ones I have got are pretty spotless, others need major work in getting them ready for gluing together. Mongooses sales department usally seem pretty good for trying to fix things.

Apart from the many many Centauri players and the quite numerous Minbari players, not forgetting of course the hordes of Narn players or Shadow agents and Semi-Sentient Vegetable ships and a few dozen ISA types (not the bank account either)
