new gm

Well, tablets are generally more expensive than e-readers. Functionality certainly overlaps but they still have their own niches, and an e-reader is best for just that: reading. Unfortunately, PDFs are often less than ideal on them according to many. I haven't been able to try yet myself.

This is getting off-topic though. :)

I actually buy quite a few books in pdf format and convert them using a tool called calibre (it is free).
It's great for converting to EPUB format.
I have used my phone for reading the epub or a pdf and both seem to work quite well.
Dont have a tablet or ebook reader at the moment.
Desire (non hd) and laptop will just have to do, as well as printing things out...

As an aside,
I have taken to creating some GM cheat sheets, with various tables from the Core rule book, which I use to check a few things. Eg. Combat Manouvres, Fumble tables, NPC crit wound tables, encounter tables, etc.
I have done this by basically screen dumping the images and pasting it into gimp, getting rid of the excess and then putting it into Openoffice CALC (alot easier to manipulate images in CALC rather than writer), and I had problems with GIMP for screen sizing.

So, my question is, would I be allowed to post a link or mail them to someone to have a look at and possibly host? or would it be a serious copyright breach?
Normally I would have said it would be a breach of copyright but due to the changes in IP ownership and such, wasnt too sure.

Thanks,
Cuediin.

I have no idea, but I would think it would breach copyright as Mongoose have a GM screen which is probably along similar lines. Best off getting advice from a professional that deals in copyright law. Matt may allow you to however.

Yup, Calibre is a must. I got my iRiver Story HD (6" screen at 1024x768) today and loaded Chaosium's Chronicles of Future Earth on it. With a bit of zooming it's perfectly legible to me at least.

Anyway, if anyone wants more talk on e-readers we'd better start a new thread or head over to mobilread forums :)
