NEW Char sheet for Traveller & CS available

GamerDude

Cosmic Mongoose
I've been playing with my MS Office 2010/Adobe Acrobat Pro trying to make fillable character sheets for the games I enjoy, like Traveller.

In the Chthonian Stars part of the files area (Character Sheet directory) I uploaded the first draft of my Traveller/Chthonian Stars CS. It's bare bones very plain but 'fancy' comes after 'working'.

I haven't figured out the settings to let you save the data under Acrobat, but I do know that the FREE PDF viewer from Nuance software will let you do that (http://www.nuance.com). I've been using this PDF reader for a few years now so I can save my fillable PDFs.

Feed back is welcome and encouraged!

UPDATE!

I spent the good part of a day wrestling with Acrobat Pro so I can complete several projects of making fillable character sheets.

The end result is that I am pleased to announce the official Mongoose character sheet (revised) has been uploaded to the MGT-Aids Yahoo Group files area, the Mongoose Traveller Section, the Record Sheets folder. It is named "travcharsheet-FILLABLE.pdf"

If you are using any form of Acrobat Reader from Adobe, you won't be able to save what you enter... BUT, I use the free version of Nuance Software's Acrobat Reader (http://www.nuance.com). The Nuance version does let you save the form along with the data you typed in.

Next up: Doing the same for the official Chthonian Stars character sheets (they gave me the raw files yesterday so I can do it. YES!).

As always, feedback and comments are encouraged & welcome.

For windows users (2k & XP on up): PDF-XChange Viewer lets you annotate any PDF - add text (etc.) anywhere and it is saved and viewable in Adobe as well!

For forms like the above - 'Fill and Save Adobe Forms to disk, email or 'post' - including XFA and dynamic forms' - for free!

Not only that - but place text boxes wherever you want with dummy text and save as a master and you basically have a fill-able form. Plus you can add call-outs, stamps, lines and several other bits of geometry.

Oh yeah - it also has excellent tiling capability (like for, say, table top sized deckplans ;) )!

Note: that it is referred to as a trail, but that is only for extended editing features (which work for a while IIRC)- its free for all uses (even commercial). I generally use this inplace of Adobe's crippled bloatware on windows PCs...

The 'viewer' can be downloaded at http://www.tracker-software.com/product/downloads. (The top one - the portable version works well too!).

[Haven't tested with GamerDude's forms - tried to signup for the Yahoo site a while back and never got a confirmation... too busy at the moment to retry.]

BP, Please let me apologize for whatever happened to your sign-up. Pretty much everyone is approved I think I've actually disapproved maybe five people in the entire existence of the group.

Please do it again and you should get approved the same day.

As for the program you mentioned, as soon as I save this post I'm going to the link and try it.

to BP...

Went through my inbox here on the MGP forums, found your email address and directly invited you. Please IM me on the boards if you don't get it by sometime Memorial Day Monday.

The sheet looks real nice! Once I get one of these PDF programs DLed I will hopefully have time to play around with them and see how saving them works out.

Thanks for getting me in Al - appreciate the work!

Took a look at the sheet on a Mac* - looks like a good matchup with a few glitches. Notably, the Finances and Equipment fields only allow 2 characters. Also, no field for entering Total Mass.

Nice job and thanks for sharing.

(*Using built in Preview app on OS 10.6.7 - which, BTW saves form data just fine and has several annotation features to make 'forms' on the fly... but PDF support is built into the OS.)

Thanks Treebore.

I downloaded and installed the program BP mentioned. I only had 30 mins to play with it before the Mrs. delivered my daily ration of "honeydo's" so the rest of me playing with it will have to wait.

Meanwhile, the FILLABLE official Chthonian Stars (one with attributes across the top) has been submitted for approval.

Now I'm off to do some of the editing I was asked about on the raw file!

Thanks BP, fixed everything and Updated the name too... to " MGP_TravCharSheet-FILLABLE.pdf ".
The description is "Replacement for the Official MGP Traveller sheet I made fillable. Fixes Finances & Equipment limited to 2 chars, added EQ MASS TOTAL, adjusted spacing for range modifiers in WEAPONS table."

No problem, glad you like it.

I should have thought to check it on my Mac, but that's my wife's machine and I like getting a nice hot dinner every evening and being able to breath.

UPDATE #37.
Ok, everyone. I've been a busy little Game Master working on some character sheets for Chthonian Stars and Traveller itself. Each of the two CSs comes in three flavors: FILLABLE, FORM, WORD2010. I think this is self explanatory. Each is in their proper sections in the MGT-Aids files area. The names and descriptions are:

Traveller_CS_(FILLABLE)-v1.3
ChthonianStars_CS_(FILLABLE)-v1.3.pdf

FILLABLE
Home-made CharSheet for Traveller - Mongoose Pub. version. Single page. Designed in MS Word 2010, Export to PDF, fillable. If you wish to save the filled form you can use the free PDF reader from Nuance software (http://www.nuance.com)

FORM
Home-made CharSheet for Traveller - Mongoose Pub. version. Single page. Designed in MS Word 2010, Export to PDF, non-fillable

WORD
Home-made CharSheet for Traveller - Mongoose Pub. version. Single page. Done in MS Word 2010

The first OFFICIAL CStars character sheet I worked on is with the company waiting for them to approve it being released, so my work on their second CS is waiting for their feedback.

Thank you for the feedback and help I've gotten. Now that I'm learning Adobe Illustrator a little I am looking at redoing everything in it and make them look much nicer!

New updates:

Both the Mongoose Traveller and Chthonian Stars Word/PDF character sheets have been updated to v1.55 with the following changes:
- Specific base font different for each (Neuropol for MGT, Myriad Pro for Chthosian - same font used by WildFire for their sheets)
- Weapon ranges now described in Meters and Squares
- Added "Player" name
- Increased
- Chthonian Stars has "Madness Level" & "Fate Points, MGT does not.
- Both have spaces for using the Chthonian Stars "Qualities/Traits" with (on second page) an explanation on back to save you looking things up.
- Second page isn't blank, has Service Record, Finances, Contacts listing, and space for notes.
- Added space for Armor
- Added an extra slot in the three SKILLS columns to adjust for the column lost to ARMOR. Three more can be added if feedback indicates this is needed).

The Office '11 "WORD" file and the PDF "FORM" versions have been uploaded, in the next few days (by Saturday) the PDF "FILLABLE" version will be available.

One of these days I'll be finished with these and able to bring everything over to Adobe Illustrator for some fancy design work.

I am also still waiting to hear from WildFire for permission to release stand alone FORM and FILLABLE versions of their two official character sheets for Chthonian Stars (since I obtained the raw files from them for something other than releasing them myself).
