NCO to SNCO

When the new EVO rules come out for SST, would it be possible to change the NCO's name to Staff NCO (SNCO). This has more of the feel it looks like you were going for. Like Gunnery SGT, Master SGT, Staff SGT, all of these could command a platoon.

I don't know what military the MI are modeled after, but they look close to the US military, and that is what they call SNCO's. Sgt's and Cpl's would be NCO's.

Small change, but it would be easier and make more sense to this gamer.

May I also suggest splitting the squad into fire teams and / or detaching Hv. weapons troopers as covering fire weapons teams.

sgts and above are SNCOs, thats senior NCO to them who dont know.

Ranks are laid out in the book from the lowliest to the highest. That includes those not used

katadder, remember some countries count there ranks differently, but yes you right in england SNCO's are Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, which are Sgt, and S/CSgt, then WO's count as their own niche.

But the UCF, as we know it came to be following events in Aberdeen, Scotland (United Kingdom). Surely the MI and Fleet should be based on the British military model?

I'd say that 100 years of the Federation alone is enough to get own military ranking system, without basing it too closely on any of the old enemies (read: any of the current countries).

Except to all of us who have no knowledge of real military organization. Then it becomes a confusing name change. Besides, sergeant just sounds better.

Except for people accustomed the the setup without NCOs ^^

Remember that NCO is just a generic title, and doesn't actually apply to the model's rank.

Ironically, I just read that bit on the bus! They were talking about being a temporary third lieutenant. The NCOs in the wargame are people like Sargeants Zim and Jelal, or the Padre and platoon cook in the Roughnecks - still Sargeants but in charge of multiple squads.

I remember that. The third lieutenant was a temporary rank assigned to troopers on their first mission after completing the officer training.

"3rd" Ranks is that of temporary in all systems in SST.
