Narn vs Dilgar/Drahk

Mongoose
This is mainly aimed at the other Narn players out there. I fought at least a few times against most of the races contained in SFOS. But I've never fought against either the Dilgar or Drahk. In fact, never even seen their ships stats. I read nearly all the forum threads regarding those 2 but it doesnt make up for actual play experience.

Since I'm not likely to find someone local that happens to have either fleet list, can the others out there give me a quick pros and cons when using Narn against either race? Maybe recommended tactics as well?

Check here for stats: http://www.pcsii.com/josborn/b5/ (static version sfos).

Dilgar: Slow with strong weapons.
Drakh: Fast, weak hulls with strong weapons.

Sorry i'm to tired to go into any real detail at the moment. :D

Dilgar are not slow. Their main attack ships are all speed twelve. But yes they do hit like a truck. (They do have a collection of slow assault ships but they rarely take those aside from the Rohric.)

Riple

The Dilgar have a mix of fast, heavy hitters and slow, really heavy hitters. They do however lack Interceptors and worthwhle beams (they've only got one beam capable ship and it's only got one AD) But they make up for it with high hull values and buckets of damage/crew.

The Drakh Hulls are paper thin for the most part, but they have beams up the wazoo and can crit anyone to death since their beams are precise. The Drakh are also fast and nimble and are viscous pack hunters. Beware the Light Cruiser.

As a Narn player and Drakh player, I have played both fleets against each other, and the Dilgar.

5 point raid - Narn V Dilgar. Dilgar win, but with only one healthy and 2 crippled ships left
Drakh V Dilgar - Dilgar win, Again all 3 remaining Dilgar ships in bad bad position (of course this is only relevant in a campaign
Drakh V Narn - Drakh win, lost only 1 ship.

6 point Raid in campaign
Narn V Dilgar, Narn win, loose 2 skirmish ships and a crippled battleship, 1 Dilgar battleship flees table, all others destroyed.

As a Narn player, one thing that is your friend is your bigger ships beams, you need range against the dilgar as theirs is poor, if you can knock a couple of ships out at range, you should be OK, Dilgar are pretty tough, concentrate on only one or two ships at a time, the Narn Bat Squad is excelent for this. don't let him get close up and personal, his guns are nastier than yours. Also remember to check if any of his ships have mass drivers before an all stop! Use your Frazis to swarm in his weaker arcs, or taint him by filling an arc full of G'Quan, and watch him panic :-) My Frazi's dominated the field last time out, as he didn't launch a single Thorum, fool, he thought I had e-mines, but it was a mag cruiser ;-)

Against Drakh, it's difficult to say, the drakh fleet can be difficult to judge and of course you need different tactics against raiders than you do against cruisers, but remember, he has naff hulls, and no fighters. Stay out of the front arc of light raiders, and the rear arc of the cruiser, and your Frazi's or even Goriths should be ok, and rip through him like um, well like a frazi through a drakh ship. You will want the best hull ships ideally, as he has SAP beamyness everywhere. the Rothan should be a solid choice, touch, and it's weapons should punch through the hull and geg effectively, even the Rongoth could be useful, those 20 forward dice against hull 4s and 5's ;-) also remember, the range on the raider weapons, is the same as the range on your secondaries on most ships, you should have all round fire protection :-)

Happy gaming.

I have to agree with Hiff.
In my experience of playing against the Dilgar I have found that you really need to make the most of your longer range ships, those nice big beams you can employ are a real key weapon here. I would also suggest Set Ship breakers on e-mines as the Dilgar ships are quite tough to breakdown.
With regards to the Drakh, again the Rothan is good ship for this task as solid ship, but the Rongoth too also gets a look in here too thanks to those lots of AD, and thats what you need against the Drakh or DD/TD weaponary. Beams are good as the ships are very weak hull wise. Try and take as many high hull ships of your own as the Drakh beams are particular nasty. The all round firepower of your ships is also good as many of the Drakh ships re manevourable but the raiders lack range so your secondar weapons should be good here. Ship breakers against the bigger ships but I have found that standard ones work quite well against raiders due tio their low hull raitings. Firing e-mines on mass works best I n my book, the quicker you can take them out the better

never played narn v dilgar but if i were narn id take quite a few initiative sinks to counter the dilgar pentacons and try not to surround mankhats try attack them from the same side [i love when my mankhats get surrounded 15" 10ad ap dd to each side usually makes me happy as in big games iv used a pentacon of 5 mankhats and a mishakur now that hurts]

as for drakh again iv not used them against the narn but id say narn would be a very hard fleet to beat with the emines to stop the raiders using there
dodge s the beams and that very nasty mag gun thing you guys have + again those g-quans whose secondary weapons are 8" so raiders are not going to find it a easy game at all but the drakh are a very very beamy fleet and nearly all precise to boot

Against the dilgar, it really depends on what ships the Dilgar takes. If they load up on Targraths and Omelos, it will be very difficult for you to keep the range on them. Due to their speed they tend to close very quickly. If you are at range 20 at the start of a turn to the fast dilgar ships, you are in CAF range and you never, ever want to be CAF'd by a Dilgar.

Depending on the Dilgar player, and by what ships you bring to the table as the Narn, he might not pentacon. This will reduce the number of ships that will actually get the boresighted beam in to arc on him.

Against the Drahk, pray he doesn't APtE and fly past you. If he does, you are in trouble as you won't be able to get those Narn beams on target. I would make sure you take some Ionic Mines for your ships in order to Cancel his Special Actions
