When he goes into his drunken rage because of the alcohol, explain to him the sheer dishonour of what he has done to all those innocent people...

...if that doesn't work. Always buy the drinks for him, and make sure you get the non-alcoholic beers.

I never noticed it before, but the other day I realized the secondary effects of alcohol on a Minbari are the same as the cumulative effects of cyanide, 2d6 Con damage.

Drinking on purpose, for a Minbari Ranger, if it doesn't kill him outright, would probably be grounds for dismissal, or at least preventing him from advancing in the Ranger class until he is allowed to atone and resume his training.

If nothing else, he should lose a lot of Minbari and Ranger influence as a mechanical effect of the shame such an act should cause. Also lose Local influence from wherever he goes into his homicidal rage.

Finally if he actually hurts or kills anyone he'd be subject to legal prosecution, including imprisonment. Since I don't know any PCs who will sit still for the legal system, the fact that he fled justice will make him a) outcaste among the rangers and b) hunted by whatever government he's fleeing from and c) possibly even hunted by the rangers themselves to make up for the shame he caused them.

So basically you've got a lot of ammunition. Good luck keeping your partner sober.

Turn him into a hunted ranger .... good job i got the Bounty hunter book now...

the other one drinks milk and keeps the Narn away from the Centari (well arms length)

Ah, I wasn't clear on whether you were playing another Ranger or running the game.

In that case: remember that everything in B5 has consequences. It might make for a very interesting storyline, but it would likely be one of those tragic storylines. Rangers are held to the highest standard, so they ought to be thinking through their actions more than anyone else.

Remember the lesson of Ranger Lennier: he made one mistake, and he paid for it for the rest of his (short) life. Taking a drink might seem small, but that's the sort of thing that could screw him over forever. However I'd let him if he wanted to. Just encourage him to consider all the possible consequences beforehand. If he can claim he's done that, well who are you to stand in the way? Londo thought he knew what he was doing too, after all...

Take this advice to heart. Nothing spoils the mood like a GM disallowing players doing things, even stupid things. Let him do it, make sure he has ample warning, and if he persists... let him deal with the consequences of his choice.

BtW, the only time where this does not apply is when his character couldn't know that drink contains alcohol, but the player does. In that case, politely taking the offered drink is good roleplaying (though a thoughtful minbari would remember that alien races often have alcohol in their drinks, and make sure it was safe - remember the scene between Londo and Lennier? - and I'm sure a Ranger would have had this drilled into him as part of his training, as such a profession would make close proximity to, or even contact with, alien drinks a lot more likely then staying on Minbar...)

That does make sense, that this would be covered in detail in Ranger training. So I'd say it'd be fair game to remind any Minbari player about the potential problems, perhaps even outline what would happen to a Ranger who allowed himself to go into a rage like that at any time. They expect all Minbari to know this stuff, but a human player might need a reminder. If he persists in it though, let him and then destroy him afterwards, as he deserves.

On a side note, I think a human sitting in on one of those classes would be highly amused. Not to mention the Minbari schoolchildren filing into the lecture hall to hear the "Why Lenn killed Venn: Alcohol is Bad" yearly lecture.
