Mongoose
I ran my first demo today at a local con. It was nearly a disaster.
First, my table had already been taken by another GM by mistake, and then by the time that was sorted out, most of the gamers had already gone off to their first games of the day. There were still a few folks wandering about, but they lingered around the historical games. There were a bunch of kids who expressed interest in Evo, but a friend of mine was running SST at the same time, and they were already slotted for that.
There were groups of people who stopped over to take a look at the minis and terrain, and they had a lot of posotive commentary, several were even directed to one of the two retailer booths, as they still had 3 squads of MEA, an Abrams, and a Type 99. But due to the lack of variety, I dont think any of it sold.
Two of the guys stopping over decided to play, and we got a great 1k battle of EFTF vs PLA. Several highpoints included a british fireteam climbing a tower, and readying their Minimi.... and then a Type 99 blasting them to kingdom come!
Here's the tower in question. Laid the top on it's side, and threw some GF9 fire templates around - fun for the whole family!
Then in another building, 3 PLA got into some nasty melee with a brit fireteam, and the brits took a casualty, but sorted them out in the end. In reward for their efforts, they took a Tank shot from the other Type 99, (through an open door) and were killed off themselves!!
They played for a little over two hours, and the PLA were shattered after losing one Type 99, and a four man fireteam in the last turn. Thats when the Con organizer notofied me that although I had been told I could have the table all day, a change had been made without him knowing, and some very patient gentlemen were waiting on me to set up their ACW game.
Overall a good time was had by all, and the only complaint heard was regarding a lack of rules for tanks ramming structures (like the building pictured below)
In lieu of ramming, thats where the Type 99 shot out the fire team adjacent to the archway on the right hand side.
I'm still kicking myself for not having used my camera, it was being used at my friends SST game, and an Ancient Irish vs Late Roman/British game my dad was running one table over.
