My Alsace class French Battleships (that never were).

BuShips

Cosmic Mongoose
The French were planning an enlarged class of the Richelieu to be constructed starting in 1942, but France fell to Germany in 1940. The third design that was proposed was a ship of around 45,000 tons mounting three quad turrets of 15" gun size (actually 14.96" or 380mm, but I rounded up). Just look at a Richelieu, stretch it out and add another 4 x 15" aft turret. Speed was to be about 30 knots, with four 3 x 6" secondary guns. There were four named ships, with a possible total of six in the class. Who really knows for sure, as it never was to be. The names of the ships were the Alsace, Normandie, Flandre, and Bourgogne. I made these models up over 20 years ago for myself, but don't know if the ship is available from any of the various miniatures suppliers. These are made to be 1/2400 scale. Most of my model collection is focused on the Pacific Theater, made up of USN and Imperial Japan's naval assets.

Those are nice. Photos are a bit blurred though.

I always blur photos of stuff I personally make. It makes it harder for the critics to see them, heh. Yeah, these were the best pics I had before my camera battery failed. I might try for a few more. Thanks.

Nice work. My only criticism is that the turrets appear to be sculpted out of the same piece if as the deck. Making them seperately would have looked much better.

Mind you, I might be wrong about the turrets, but that's how it looks.

When looked at this closely, the imperfections do show up. Yes, the entire master was made up to be cast in one piece, very much like the resin ships made by Panzerschiffe in Ohio (I made up several masters for them many years ago). I added the "B" turret gun barrels by pin-vising holes into the turret and adding wire. Same for the masts of course. Oh, to have a 3D rapid prototyper (sigh).

I see. Those are some nice models. I dislike you quite a lot now...
