MRQ Wiki Question...

Hey, folks.

Is the MRQ Wiki of value? It doesn't seem to get a lot of use, and I'm shelling out $10/month for a bunch of cool features. If it's not going to be used all that much, I'll just downgrade it and let it go. But if we want to keep using it, I don't have a problem with the money.

Thoughts?

I like the Wiki (though I haven't posted for a while - but whenever I write something up I always put it there).

What exactly does the $10 a month buy over the free wiki? If the premium services you are paying for aren't being used you shouldn't keep paying for it.

I also check it every day, but I haven't uploaded anything except for a fillable pdf character sheet. Like Rurik said, if the $10 isn't getting you much that people are using, then just let it downgrade. I do appreciate you maintaining the site though.

I keep intending to write and post Runequest stuff, but I can't seem to find the time to even look for the time. I don't have anything organized -- just notes here and notes there.

Eventually I should have notes on converting Iron Kingdoms to Runequest that I could put up somewhere. I've got lots of ideas, but the challenge is to get the chance to put them into the computer.

My players don't seem to have a lot of interest in my Runequest Modern idea. It's a pity, because it seems to me that the Runequest system could be an excellent vehicle for modern adventurers.

If only I didn't have to work 40 hours a week, but still had money... :?

They may not but I am sure others on here would be.

Let's see... with the "Silver" package, we get 1gb of file space (instead of 100mb), better access control ("editor" and "admin" passwords, instead of admin access for all), I think there might be some ads on the non-"Silver" package, and some other cool stuff.

Enough that I don't mind paying if it (the wiki) is being used.

If something happened on the Shared World idea (other than just the map), then I can see the wiki becoming pretty busy. It just needs someone to take the plunge.

I do think it's a useful resource though, but it needs the odd prod, like this, to keep it fluid.

I'd say let it downgrade until you need the extra space and features. If it starts to take off, you'll know that it is useful. You can always set up something for donations, too.

Donations aren't a bad idea...

It wouldn't surprise me if we could get a few gamers to drop a buck or two in a PayPal account.

How much space is the wiki using now? Are we even close to needing the extra space? Maybe we could let it be a "standard" account until we have enough content to justify the extra storage space.

Perhaps if some of the writers could put together something like a pdf, the proceeds of which would go to running the site?

I would be willing to contribute something.

Have just started a new job, no time for RQ, haven't updated Mr Qwiki for a while.

I have a look now and again, normally when an email tells me something has been altered.

It is useful, but perhaps isn't worth paying for until it gets too big that you need the extra storage.

I'd like to see it continue, if only to have a single place to go to for useful ideas, rather than discussions.

The only problem with downgrading it is that then the editing password becomes the administrative password, and anyone can get in and change the site settings, or delete pages, or cancel the wiki.

Which doesn't sit well with me for some reason.

If you're able to export and import into alternative wiki software, I'll happily provide free hosting for any wiki software you'd like to use.

There's an MRQ wiki?

Actually I vaguely remember hearing about this a while ago. But I haven't thought about it since and don't remember the url. Link please?

I hope this isn't it:
http://runequest.pbwiki.com/

maybe a link in some of the more frequent posters' sigs?

Nope it's at http://mrqwiki.pbwiki.com/

Thats the one. It is affectionately known to some as Mr. Qwiki.

There also is a sticky at the top of the forum that links to it......

[removed pricing info that I wrote and then realized the error]

Nevermind, Just realized they upped the prices. I got it when it was $5 a month.

If cost is an issue and we can grab some wiki software, this is the second offer for a more permanent host. I have a reseller's account which could be used and which I'm happy to put to mrqwiki's use, too ...

Ok, so, all the talk about hosting the MRQ Wiki elsewhere got me thinking. So I've rearranged some of my personal domains and purchased a new one. I'm going to move the MRQ Wiki there; if I'm going to foot the bill for it I might as well do it on a decent server with better software for lower cost.

I'll let everyone know when the URL is updated and whatnot.
