Mongoose
Hiya - Okay , bottom line is I am not arsed about what speed Warp Factor X is and effects on plasma coils etc... Damn it Jim ! I am a Roleplayer NOT a Wargamer (:P)

What I want are some ideas for running a DS9 or Voyager type game in the Star Trek Universe using Mongoose Traveller.

Has anyone done any "Careers" based around this ? Are they on the Net ?

Just wondering :)

The basic problem with the ST universe is that everyone has the Navy career. Now if you want to be private citizens, that can be done, but daily life of average citizens in the future have never really been fleshed out well.

Having said that, if everyone has the navy career, then the specializations become more important than the career itself.

Somebody posted a link to "Role Playing in the UFP for MGT.pdf", its about 1.4MB in size. And it says the author is Stuart Aston.

I tried searching the Mongoose Forums for it and failed to find it.

Not sure what the different .pdfs and conversions have.

But one idea off the top of my head would be to sub-categorize a couple of careers under the 'navy/star fleet' umbrella. So you would have Engineer, Security, Ops/Navigation. Then each career would have the typical 3 branches that are more refined. Engineer - Warp Drive, Transporter, Computer. Something like that.

Or on the other hand you could roll up characters as normal but give the player a 'free pass' that allows them to enter the Navy/Starfleet career for free and successfully (without any chance of failure). That way you could make a character and get his/her life story (what the character did before joining SF) and they could join at different times during their life.

I dunno... thats just off the cuff ideas that if I were to do a Star Trek game would use.
