Mongoose Plastics, and GW paints

Mongoose
Hi everyone,

I've had the good fortune to just discover ST after a time away from wargaming in general, just in time to get in on the plastics sale.

As I assemble my MI, I'm thinking about how to paint them to get the proper generic green shade... The trouble is, I have a lot of GW paints left over from my Warhammer 40k days (thankfully, not the kind that used to dry out overnight...), and the painting guide references Tamiya paints.

Have any of you used GW paints, and what worked best for you? I imagine "Dark Angel Green" is a good place to start, but what do you recommend for the highlights?

Thanks!

I used GW paints on my CAPs and they do keep fine on both plastic and metal LAMIs. Although have used Blood Red, so can't help much with the issue of greens.

I painted my MI with a basecoat of Dark Angel Green.
then a first highlight of Dark Angel Green and Snot Green.
then a layer of Snot Green and a final highlight of Snot Green and Bleached Bone.

the black areas i painted Chaos Black (of course) and a highlight of one third Chaos Black and two thirds Codex Grey.

I painted the gun with two colors because i didn't like 1 color metal guns.
the first color is Catachan Green with a little bit of Boltgun Metal, and a highlight of the basecoat with a little bit of Chainmail added to the mix.
the second color is Boltgun metal basecoat with a highlight of Chainmail.
both colors were given a wash of watered down Black Ink.

hope it helps

mine are painted similar to Greyhounds - I undecoated black, then drybrushed catachan green, then dark angels green, then goblin green. the tighs were then repainted black and given a quick drybrush of fortress grey, the drop-down visor was painted shining gold, and backpack details were picked out in boltgun metal.

The guns were given the same layered green on the armoured sections, with boltgun metal on the rest.

If you read my assembly tutorial there's a pic of some painted troops at the end. I used catachan green (i forget the spelling) and drybrushed them with scorpion green. I think it works quite well.
