Mongoose Hall

I will give details of the show from my perspective:

We had twenty traders (plus Mongoose, of course) turn up on the day, which is not a bad number for a first event (last year was more of an exercise in logistics rather than a full show). SO thanks to all those who supported the show in this way.

We were desperately short of tables and had to raid the playgroup's mini kids' tables for the bring and buy (we were promised loads more, but there you go!)

Reasonably busy. With traders, tournament players, demonstrators, staff and, of course, paying customers there must have been close to a couple of hundred people at various points throughout the day. Would have liked another fifty to a hundred through the door, but not too bad. Did tail off later in the day, though.

My Traveller game went down well, as did the RuneQuest scenario (last RQ fight had but one survivor facing off against the big bad (and who survived by running away!)), but it was designed for a couple of extra characters and the players all enjoyed themselves.

The 15mm Sci-fi, Stealthy Spider zombie apocalyse and Thermopylae tables were really good set ups, visually.

I splurged some cash on a variety of things:

20mm buildings for the Mongoose gaming tables (these are nice terrain pieces, although I am going to have to paint them now).

A couple of very nice, big and mutated scorpion men (a pleasant surprise!) that one of the mini companies had with them.

Some second hand 28mm Germans and Americans with a Sherman.

A couple of bike gangs from Stealthy Spider.

A German Universal carrier from bolt action miniatures, complete with Panzerschreks! They also gave me a nice little Wasp as well (a variant u.c. - not the insect).

There were quite a few other bits and pieces I would have liked to pick up, but as it is I have enough new minis and stuff to keep me busy for a couple of months.

I did a lot of meeting and greeting and talking to various people (demonstrators, customers and traders - seeing how things were going and the like).

One day I will get to have a go at Stealthy Spider's excellent participation games - I just do not know when that will be (alas).

Because it was not that busy one young lad who was there pretty much all day got to have a go at just about all the participation games, keeping himself very busy and obviously enjoying himself immensely. I suspect we may see him back next year!

Most of the traders I spoke to said they would be back next year.

We will try and avoid other shows (and major events - like the season finale to the footie) like the plague and book the hall early - possibly for mid-June next year - also look to make it a Saturday if possible.

We will also look to expand the show a bit. There are extra rooms we can hire out as needed and there was room in the main hall for quite a few extra games and traders, should the need arise. There are several fairly large traders who would have been turned up but for scheduling conflicts (another reason for changing the date!).
