Using spare space.
For the inside front and inside back covers, I simply printed the four pages of tables from the Traveller Referee’s Screen and glued them in the front and inside back covers. Ideal because when I Referee Traveller in my living room, I have my CRB on my knee and rarely use a screen.
Improving on the CRB’s contents page.
For the page opposite the CRB’s Contents, Using LibreOffice Writer, I have created a single A4 page that is the extended contents of the 2016 CRB. I’ve done other modifications – handwritten cross references, printed quick reference tables throughout the book.
Marking the chapters.
Get a “Post-It 2x1.5 inch Durable Filing Tab” from anywhere that sells stationery. A certain company named after a river sold me mine. It came with 4 different colours. I took 4 different coloured tabs, and, using a black Sharpie pen, wrote the numbers “10 11 12” and cut it into 3 numbered slivers and used them to provide numbered markers for chapters 10, 11, and 12. Put the number “12” and use it to mark chapter 12 and then continue the process all the way to 10. Then do the say for the 3 remaining coloured tabs.
Building in bookmarks.
If your CRB is suitably battered and you have access to its inner spine, consider getting some ribbon (I bought 1 metre of red ribbon for about 30p from the Yorkshire Trading Company). Get some strong glue – I used Araldite. Fold the ribbon in half. At the top end, apply about 1 inch (2.54cm) of glue and stick the ribbon in. Support the bond for a while. Then put the book to one side, to wait for as long as the glue instructions say to wait for. This yields 2 built-in bookmarks.
