asked this one in the wargames section and i got no bites. The minbari ships are the coloured diferently based on caste? age etc? or ammount of paint in the pimp my spaceship shop?

The only colour variation you saw was a slight difference in tone on the Grey Council's ship, besides that they were all the same colour (of the hull types we actually saw - Sharlin, Tinashi, Nial, Flyer and the shuttle thing from "In the Beginning").
Except of course the ships in "Legend of the Rangers" which were Anla'Shok vessels like the Whitestar so are a whole different kettle of fish (not Angel Fish
