Mighty armies Historical

Mr Evil

Mongoose
ok a year or so ago i was at mongoose and played MA and to be honest its a great game.

but as many have said the minis let it down

at the moment were playing with fire and fury for american civil war, but it all a bit random on results, wich can be fun, but can kill the best tactical strike ever.

so how about some historical sets of mighty armies.

maybe a book of army lists for different periods, maybe evan upto WW2 !!! all in 15 mm of course, or maybe for more modern theaters of war micro scale ?

I think that is an excellent idea.

All we need are some spare writers, editors and artists :)

well id just fill a book with typos, but if you fancy playtesters that can rip it to bits and build it up, me and my friends are available for that. if you fancy doing the 7 year war, or ACW my mate tony will probably very usefull. as wella s napolionics. i just come up with novel ways of handling things outside the box :D lol

dunno what rules set is like for mighty armies but know GW does their warhammer ancients through all sorts of time periods and this is one of the better ancients games out there.

I said the same in the MA forum. Mongoose would face established competition from DBA and GW.
However Napoleonics, American Civil War and anything else between the renaissance and WW1 are largely untouched by the gaming community which in itself is surprising
Before DBA, Warhammer Ancients and Flames of War came along Napoleonics and ACW were the most popular historical eras.

Most DBA-ers I know are also DBM-ers and they seem to be mid DBM/DBMM crisis at the moment if our club is anything to go by.

Maybe an opportunity

IMHO (and in the opinion of most of my wargaming chums who are ACW fans) Fire and Fury is just about THE best brigade level game covering the period (and the new regimental version does extremely well for that level too). Anything goig up against it would be in for a rough ride!

fire and fury is a bit rendom though isnt it !!! definatly room for improvment id say in the game.

Its not as random as you think, you just need to plan properly, in particular understanding how important your leaders are in motivating and controlling your troops, and you need to plan on the assumption that at least some of your troops won't do exactly what you want when you want them to. If you read up on the ACW you actually find that its a very true representation, in particular the problems in command and control that real commanders faced in the pre-wireless era (its one of the best combined C&C and morale systems on the market). The napoleonic version is also very good, and I've seen ECW and Sudan era variantd as well (plus many covering other wars of the 19th century).
