Long time lurker here, figured it was time to contribute something to the community! Ive had these Marauders since the game came out but never got around to finishing them up proper like. I also got a new digital camera as well so I am able to get some pics done. (Still getting the hang of the settings, these are quickie pics, some are not the crispest) I noticed the quality of the photos diminish once posted to the net.
The original models are pretty darn cool, but to me they were just too static. Ive tried to do alot to make them more action oriented or at least give them a sense of movement and direction.
The M8s were the easiest, being the most posable. The ball and socket hips, while being a good idea are an eyesore and make the stance way too wide. To fix this I snip off the "ball" on the torso and then pin it to the leg socket, making the hips much narrower and easier to pose. (I got this idea from a post here, cant remember who it was or the link to the page, but the photos were over at the Dropship site.) On the shooting hands I splayed the "fingers" out, similar to when they fire on the animated series. For the Triphhamers I am looking into getting more of the CHAS mortars, I like the more streamlined look of those. Some of the M8s are also missing their roll cages, I lost em and cant find em! Gotta check with the locals to see if any are floatin around.
As for the Chickenhawks, the weapons that come with the original model are a joke. Besides being too small, they are too plain and dont have any kind of ammo feeds. (The whole model is too small) I sorta...upgraded them. The bits are from the evil empire we all know so well, slightly modified in some cases. A bit over the top? Yeah they are. I have some utility claws that look almost exactly like the ones from the animated series, I will be mounting these soon alongside the chin guns so they dont look quite so "bolted on".
You will probably also notice the canopies are all clouded. I will be painting over these so they dont matter.
The unit history is in the making, Im still trying to figure out what their emblem will be. Once thats decided I can post some background info.
Enough talk! On to the photos!
The NCO, my favorite because the pose came out so well. The sense of motion with him coming off the little rock came out perfectly.
A second pic of the NCO, a little more ground level. Not a very good quality pic tho.
The Corporal.
The standard trooper, my "red shirt". This one is interesting because it was the first marauder I ever assembled. Notice the firing hand isnt splayed out, and I had the hips assembled the standard way. Months later I went back and modified the hips to be like the others. This caused the base to warp ever so slightly since the feet were glued down and I had to pull the legs together at the top.
My heavy fire support, the Grizz.
A second photo of the Grizz. I tried to get him to look as if he were hunkering down to let loose with the mortar. Not sure I pulled this off well enough.
Chickenhawk Uno.
Chickenhawk Two. A bit more static looking. You cant see it in the pic but hes sidestepping to the left.
Closeup of the weapon mounts.
Weapons again.
A side view of the Blizzard pack.
This is what the modified hips look like before assembly. This is also going to be the fourth M8, his pose is going to be the most complex yet. Ill post some pics of him when he is done.
Any suggestions or ideas are always welcome. Thanks for lookin!
