Its Fluffy05's birthday today, so I decided to make him a gaming table for playing ACTA as a present.
The process is pretty similar to the description I have given before. But I decided to do it outside in the sun. Beautiful day in Toowoomba today, 32 degrees C, not too humid, gentle breeze. Absolutely fantastic.
Because of the temperature the whole process was very quick. I arranged all my paints and had the board outside on a trestle table and thirty minutes later I had finished varnishing the board.
Basic details:
The board is 6 mm MDF 2400 x 1200mm. Since it is going to go on top of a table, this thickness is fine and makes the board reasonably light.
Water based black paint and gloss varnish.
Enamel black, red, yellow and white spraypaint.
1 brush.
I have found that deliberately getting the nozzles clogged and not shaking the can too much gives an nice effect. Also using what breeze there is to spread the spray also gives an nice effect.
If I have too heavy a spot of colour, the out comes the black spraypaint to blend it back in.
In any case, I think having a painted table just gives that little bit extra over a plain black table.
