Magic World

So, the Chaosium's Magic World RPG pdf has been released. While it is a standalone game, I think it also could be used as a supplement for Legend game. At first, I think the 80 or something monsters could be used right out the box, but I'm not sure.

Anyone read it?

Not yet. I was wondering the same thing myself.

I'm a M Moorcock nut, I purchased Chaosiums, Elric! and The Bronze Grimoire which along with a smattering of rules from RQ3 I believe form the basis of the game (from reading various posts, mostly on BRPCentral).

As it's a D100 variant though, it should be highly compatible with minimum conversion work required.

I've bought it, but haven't had a chance to read it yet...

Guess what I'm doing this weekend ;)

I am also interested, if there are magic potions and traps, that can be used.
Then what about the magic system. Is it anything interesting and unique to add to Legend?
And finally the combat. While legend has a variant for generic HP-s (without hit locations), the combat maneuvers are really not meant for that. MW has combat maneuvers as well, I wonder if they can be added to Legend combat.

I've started my way through the book and my initial impression is that it has a strong retro feel - I get the sense that it will play a lot like early RQ or Stormbringer with the rough edges files off (and that's not a bad thing at all!)

Not at all surprising given my post above. Have you got Elric/SB5 and/or the Bronze Grimoire? It would be interesting to do a comparison.

I believe that MW is identical to Elric!/SB5 with the following differences:
All the sorcery spells from the Elric! books are in the core book
Demon summoning is in Advanced Sorcery
The three allegiances are now Light, Shadow and Balance
The non-Gloranthan monsters from RuneQuest 3rd Edition are converted and included in the core book.

Thanks Prime-Evil,

So how do you think it will play? I've ever only played 1 session using BRP and I'm reasonably confident I didn't do it justice as GM. Have you experience playing it in it's previous incarnations?

My initial thoughts would be to mine it for ideas and monsters for Legend. Never GMed BRP before, but hey, only GMed Legend once before. :D

Just bought the PDF. My initial thoughts are the book has a cool retro look and feel. Packed full of stuff at 276 pages. There is also a map available.

More to follow once I have read through the book.

Does anyone know if there will be more material for this setting?

But what about combat? I haven't seen Elric! RPG game. How is it different, does it play faster, is there tactical options?

Apparently there will be at least one other supplement, Advanced Sorcery. This has the Demon summoning and binding rules from the Elric/SB5 game and some other stuff.

The setting in MW is almost purely an example. Ben has indicated that there might be some expansion of it, but it's really like the material presented in RQ6, an example world used to present the rules material and a start to designing your own campaign.

He's currently gathering errata from those who have purchased the PDF, some of the errors he's managed to get into the manuscript before submission to the printer, other issues are going into an errata document that will be available via download. Updated PDF's should be available via download. As Chaosium doesn't do like OBS and show you if any of your downloads have been updated by the publisher you'll need to keep an eye on Ben's postings. I'd suggest at BasicRolePlaying.com or rpg.net forums.

I just hope it comes out SOON.... ;)

Both actually, but I always fail my Persistence roll against SHINY. ;)

Plus I'm keep to support Chaosium's work whenever I can as they are the wellspring from which so many great things have flowed...
