LucasFilm purchased by Disney for $4 Billion

No lie.

LucasFilm, and all it's properties, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones--and ILM--has been purchased by Disney for $4 Billion, more than doubling George Lucas' total worth.

Thought you Traveller fans would like to know.

A new Star Wars film, Episode 7, is due out on 2015, with Episodes 8 and 9 after. Then, Disney plans to release a new Star Wars film every two or three years after that, not unlike the James Bond franchise.

George Lucas is 68 years old but will be retained as a Star Wars consultant.

I want "Star Wars: A Christmas Carol"

Darth Vader as the "marley"
Emperor as "Ghost of Christmas Future"
Gungan Leader as "Ghost of Christmas Present"
Annakin's Mom as "Ghost of Christmas Past"

*Big Cheesy Smile*

It's about time. Should have been done back in 1990 when Disney was making their movie rides. Hopefully, Ironman 3 doesn't suffer too much from Disney owning Marvel during its entire filming/creation.

So what I'd like to know is when they bring Kingdom Hearts to the big screen! :D

Of course they can add new areas including having the big bad be some guy in full ebon black armour with a respirator who gets mad when the hero keeps offering him some throat lozenges!

Don't forget that Disney also owns Marvel, and they put out The Avengers.

It ultimately depends if they've just bought them over lock stock and barrel, or if they intend to get involved in the detail. Marvel Studios runs as an almost independent entity.

Disney themselves, by comparison, put out John Carter.

John Carter was not a bad film. It's budget was too high and it was marketed very poorly.

Was it the most faithful adaptation of a Burroughs property? No. But imagine how much worse it would have been received if it had kept all of the racist stuff from the books. In my opinion the only thing that the film needed was perhaps a bit more exposition, as I imagine that those unfamiliar with Barsoom were at sea at many points.

Anyhoo, I'm glad that GL won't be producing the new ones. He's lost his touch. I don't think that the new Star Wars films will be great, but I bet they'll be better than GL could do now.

Totally agree on that point, 100%

Imagine, if you dare, Donald Duck as Darth Vader...
Just in case anyone hasn't yet seen Episode VI, I won't spoil it. If you have seen Episode VI, there's a pretty big hint towards the end as to why Donald Duck will not appear as Darth Vader, unless the New Order intends to abandon continuity with previous films. ;) On the other hand, Donald Duck, alias Darth Quacker, could appear as a new Sith lord, leading to the question - is he the master or the apprentice?

I thought Disney had already purchased the franchise back when Episode One was released.

Maybe they were concerned that his movies were in danger of damaging Disneys reputation, and that they had better buy the damn company to raise standards?

Han Solo won't get to shoot Greedo first in the cantina. Why?

First, being in a cantina would send the wrong message about drinking.

Second, seeing an ugly bug-man creature getting vaporised would upset the anti-gun lobby.

And let's not forget that people will never, ever get seriously hurt by the magic laser-sword things. The end result of having all those warrior-droids being the expendable goons, you see. No blood gets spilled...
