Loose automatic if you use a fighter only fleet ?

Many Scenarios are fight until only one side has ships on the table.
And (as often said) Fighters are no ships.
So if somebody can only field fighters (while the game is on Patrol Level and the only Patrol choice the player has are fighters) does these Player automatic loose the battle ?

Make sure to have some Skirmish level ships in your fleet. Even at random FAP selection you cannot have less than 3 patrol points, which will buy you a skirmish ship, with a point left.

Even ISA can simply use 1 FAP of allies to get around that.

So luckily there is no fleet that HAS to take fighters only.

You're right, it is possible for Shadows and Vorlons. It is pretty unlikely on the randon FAP table (a result of 3 or more gives you enoughpoints to buy a Raid-level ship). But certain scenarios (Ambush, Blockade etc) are fixed at 2 or 3 FAP.

Pretty unlikely will still happen.

But yes the problem are rather the certain scenarios. Then again when playing Vorlons and Shadows one can simply keep that in mind. And who wants to play small games with first ones :S

In the show the Fighters had solved "Scenarios" alone.
For example the Blockade of Babylon 5 by President Clarke was fullfiled by a squadron of Sarfuries and by a Omega.

And in the first episode of the first Season a Starfury squadron drive of Raiders and "attack" theri base.

So I find it a littlebit confusing, that if you have Fighters only you loose automatic the Battle.

In our campaign we've seen a number of smaller engagements, particularly skirmish or patrol level blockades, recon runs, annihalations. It would have been very restrictive if our Shadow player had not dropped. Now she could have done it but always being stuck with Scouts would have been unsatisfing for her. Actually it was...might even be part of why she dropped.

Only Blockade and Convoy Duty.
All other need Ships to fullfill the mission or you lost automatic if you have only Fighters.

It´s not really Babylon 5 like if Fighters can´t be used to play Scenarios (missions).

True, but ACTA is primarily a ship combat game. If both players just took fighters, it wouldn't make for a very interesting battle.

Oddly the show has the episode with G'Kar and his two wingman doing a run to a jump gate pursued by three shadow fighters. I know it would only be one patrol or some such but still...

Put one Frazi flight next to a shdow fighter flight. Each player rolls a dice. If the Narn player rolls highest, G'kar escapes, otherwise he dies. Re-roll ties.

In fact you could play it without minis.

I just invented a game! I wonder if I could get the licence from WB for the 'Babylon 5: The Fate of G'kar Game'? :D

Kidding aside, it would be great for a fighter-scale game, but not so good with ACTA.

for me the main Proplem is, that you pay Points for Fighters or Ships which have as "Mainweapon" Fighter and if this ships is then destroyed you loose automatic, even if you have enough Fighter to defeat the enemy.

Is a littlebit irrational.
Or I´m wrong ?
