Light Infantry plastics?

Just a personal curiosity:

I just got the Klendathu invasion book. (I know we have a new game on the way, but the campaign looks fun, and I already have the 'old' rules)

As I'm reading through it, during the notes on how to convert a LAMI fednet trooper, it references the 'light infantry sprue'. And, looking at the figures, they don't look much like the current metals...

Were there once upon a time plastic LAMI? I looked on ebay, and checked old posts, but they don't seem to exist.

Of course, by August we'll have new plastics, but it still made me very curious, in regards to what-came-before.

(I think, it was a while ago) Originally the LAMIs were supposed to be plastic, but those sprues just didn't work in the end, and they had to resculpt them in metal. I'm sure someone else remembers better than i do though.

There was a plastic sprue planned. However, due to delays, quality control issues, the fact they didn't look very good, and it being very much a case of make or break for the game at that stage, Mongoose decided to shelve the whole project and release the metal LAMI we know and love at a special price to make up for it.

There was a plastic sprue, but Mat said that the factory that makes their molds/casts said it didn't do justice and so they made a bunch or resculpts. I personally liked the look of the plastics as I could have done conversions and swapped legs or weapons etc.
