Had an awesome game last night, with an EFTF British force of 3 Challanger II and 3 Sections of infantry up against the PLA's 4 Sections of Infantry supported by 3 Type 99's. I was going to work out the points properly, but as we were in a hurry to set up and get going, I couldn't be arsed!
The battle was over a partially ruined town, liberally sprinkled with walls, ruins, abandoned cars and the odd standing building! I was commanding the PLA, and my mate Robbo, the EFTF. Both of us decided to keep the larger section formations, rather than breaking into fire-teams... this meant that my larger PLA sections were VERY bunched into our 6" command radius, compared to Robbo's 8 man, 12" ones... and with the large numbers of Minimi's in a Brit section, this did tell!
My plan was to keep the Type 99's as far away from his Challys as possible, and exploit the lack of man-packed A/T in a Brit section, using my tanks as anti-personel weapons, while tieing his armour up with fear of my 8 LAW's.
His plan was (and I quote) to "...hurt you, bad!", leading with his Challys, and following up with the infantry in support.
Both plans looked like working, right up to the point of contact!
I lost my first '99 in turn 1, and lost most of a Section in my centre shortly afterward. Careful use of cover, and massive distraction by infantry bearing LAW's enabled me to get a '99 around the flank, where it rolled a 10 from behind on Chally.... BOOM!!!!! That knocked the wind out of his sails, and when it followed up by supressing the Infantry (in the open now!) supporting the Chally with the MG's, killing 4 including the Corp, things started to look less rosey! The next turn saw the remanents wiped out, and when added to some appalling dice rolling from the surviving Challys and the machine-gunning of hapless Brit infantry by the remaining '99s, the rot had set in!
At the end of turn 6, there were just 4 Brit infantry and 2 Challys left alive, facing 18 PLA and 2 '99s. Robbo folded.
The Glorious Liberation of the Fire Station Mess Room Table has begun!
