I have seen this with some of the other books someone has a sell of an item not out, and does not ship it till after it is out. It's a scam, buy it directly from Mongoose.

He told me he had several book (being a personal friend of Matt or Alex can help).

I guess they already have the 1st batch copies

One hopes that once they find out that he is selling these books on E-Bay before they go to market he becomes an ex-personal friend, at least as far as getting early access to books is concerned...

Weren't there some advance copies of some titles not yet published being sold at the Mongoose booth at Dragonmeet at the end of november?

As I mentioned on another thread - I bought a copy of Magic of Glorantha from this guy (just) before the release date for £14 and a GM's screen for £5. They arrived after MoG was out (but that could have just been the xmas post) but he did charge me £7 "seller's standard shipping" charge.

Funnily enough making the total equal to RRP plus a bit to cover postage...

The auction finishes on Xmas eve so I wouldn't put any bets on getting the book any time soon.

Hefty price for such a short distance. Perhaps he doesn't like Scots? Or are the shipping fees different from within England?

The shipping fees were only arrived at after the auction, which makes me suspicious.

Still could all have been perfectly innocent, but I will be waiting and using my FLGS from now on.

Sounds like a scam to me.

I would give him bad feedback if he is on Ebay.
Sellers are suppose to advertise their shipping rates prior to the sale if the sale isn't international.

Whenever I have had OTT postage demands for an e-bay win I send out my own pre-addressed and pre-paid padded envelope - all the seller has to do is drop in the bok/miniature and post it to me. Or just tell them that they need to go and check the price as I sell a lot of stuff on e-bay myself. On occassion I have just turned up at the seller's door and collected the item (if they lived closed enough).

I do not mind paying a little extra but sometimes sellers are money grabbing (insert favourite word here) when auctions do not reach a certain level.

I've never bought anything on eBay without a published delivery charge, except when buying from overseas (and even then I usually contact the seller before bidding and ask them how much they think it will be). As long as I've agreed to it up-front I have no problem with it being more than the actual postage costs (especially some of those selling are businesses and can legitimately build in a charge for someone's time in picking the stock and physically packing the box).
