Cosmic Mongoose
Remulak-Lamaar Shipyards presents the Lancer class SDB, available to all Imperial recognized government, licensed Mercenary Units, and Foreign polities with a class B trade rating.

“When second best will get you dead”

The lancer is an all-frills, sophisticated gunship-style system defense boat. It is essentially a small, highly stealthed hull, life system and powerplant wrapped around a large particle bay. It is designed to remain on station, powered down and invisible for up to three months at a time, and to engage enemies from long range with a devastating high yield particle beam attack.

The lancer specializes in “shoot and scoot” harassing and sniping, in-system logistics raiding and preventing strategic targets from being secured: refueling operations are especially hazardous in the presence of a lancer. No intruder force will be able to ignore the potential of these boats, nor will they have an easy time finding them. Simply as a force in being, the lancer, when properly deployed, is guaranteed to have a longer effective lifetime in hostile or occupied systems than most lower priced hulls, all the while tying up many times its displacement in enemy hulls in rear area security, search and convoy escort.

In combat situations, the Lancer can rely on the stealth systems and sophisticated evasion software on its powerful Type 3 Fib computer to ensure that the enemy can’t hit what they can’t see.

The armored hull is rad & heat shielded hull to allow the lancer to remain on station in the most inhospitable (and thus discreet) locations. The stealth coated hull combined with a state of the art countermeasures suite and oversized computing resources allow it further concealment, and the ability to stalk its prey undetected.
The solar panels can provide power when the main reactor is powered down for extended endurance, and the power plant is a Lysenko design Bureau EBR-3 Fission reactor, with 3 months of fuel at maximum output.

The crew is supported by single stateroom assignment for extended comfort, and up to 45 Tons of supplies for the typical long term missions (using an optional 30ton drop pod). Long missions may also be extended by use of the long berths, which are completely powerable by the solar arrays, if needed.

Looks fine, although I am somewhat in doubt about the low berths. :)

The idea is for the crew to rotate time in low berth to extend supplies and reduce fatigue. At least two crew will have medic 1 when this is used. In emeregency, say, just hypothertically, if they got their ship shot up, the ship can deploy solar panels and sleep the crew for later rescue.

This is a nice design for defending that Far Star in a binary star system.

Also, it would be nice for hiding in Gas Giants...

Again though, 3gs is a bit limited on performance for a fighting ship...

One question: Why a fission reactor? TL12 is well within "fusion" land in Traveller.

But the most important question: Does it come with extra conespace?

Thank you for your interest in the Remulak-Lamaar lancer class SDB.
The model in question uses the finest Tech 12 Lysenko design Bureau EBR-3 Fission reactor to maximize on-site deployment time. A typical fusion reactor, while smaller, would require excessive fuel supplies to have comparable endurance. The existence of the local Mining and processing company, AtomKraaft-Maartin is merely a convenience that allows us to pass along the savings from local production to you, the customer.

Additionally, the life support areas are specifically configured to permit beings of unusual cranial height, capacity or headgear to operate in comfort, as is the tradition in.....France.

We appreciate your interest in our products, and in recognition of our thanks, have enclosed (under seperate cover) a discount coupon, good for a 25% discount on your next purchase of healthy and nutritious Protoid (tm) capsules.

I assume that the bay weapon will be a "spinal mount" on this ship since it is more than half the total ship. Attempting to turn it like a turret would be more likely to spin the ship.

Adding a 30 ton Drop Pod will put the ship over 200 tons.
Is the bridge large enough?

[Out of character]
Assuming that the bay has to physically turn its entire mass may be a bit of an over-estimation. I've always imagined it as an in hull installation (with power controls, capacators, ficon) with a moveable emitter; which could be consideraply smaller than the bay as a whole.

Still, it would look cool with a big honking turret - and would avoid the spinal weapon panalty in anycase. And I would presume that the M drive and automatic systems could compensate for the torque effects of even a 101 ton turret.

Bad reader ! No Protoid Capsule !

Interesting question. The answer is no, if a pod counts toward the final displacement. It would for M drive or J drive, I admit, but for control purposes ? Would a docked subcraft do the same ? I'd say no , as obviously saying yes would invalidate the design..;)

Otherwise, one could shift extra space from the cargo bay to increase the bridge size - looking at the older supply requirements, 1 dTon can supply 5 crew for 30 weeks there is room for less storage.
