How about the “Mongoose en français” line ? Are you happy with the initial results ?

Since the line is mostly “Runequest en français” only at this point, do you plan to try developing the “Traveller en français” side ? Today there’s only the core book translated and nothing else, and it’s not enough to start playing. Lacking is at least the GM screen, a setting book and an adventure.

I sincerely hope to see the line developed in French, so Traveller has a chance to really find an audience in our country, it’s a great game.

We have indeed been pleased with the initial results of Mongoose en Francais, and we are looking forward to continuing through 2011. As for Traveller, that is something we would like to do more with but, ultimately, what we can do is dictated by the French market and distribution system.

I don't know about the distribution system, but players clearly are reluctant to invest in a core rulebook that is not self-sufficient. Without a setting book and at least an introductory adventure, Traveller has next to zero chance, unfortunately.

It's basically a "chicken and egg" situation. Should the player invest in a product to have more on the way, or should the editor provide enough material with the hope of attracting customers, even if in the Traveller case, it would mean releasing at least three books with no garanty of immediate success ?

Ultimately it's your decision, of course, but you emphasize the "boldness attitude" in your State of the Mongoose. Perhaps it's time to be a little bolder with the "Traveller in french" line ?
