I assume there's no evidence of civilisation even if the world was subject to a cataclysm that might explain its current environment?
No, it is just a somewhat primordial planet without any history
concerning previous civilizations.
My first thought was wondering if you have read the dinosaur planet by Anne McCaffrey I recall it was expanded into a series that also involved one of the main characters having survived a crashed spaceship but discovered that when she was rescued that she needed retraining as some of her skills were out of date as a minor character in that series discovered his own speciality field as a scientist had been rendered obsolete when he was recovered!
Have you seen any episode of the Outcast series which dealt a little along these lines though were farther along the process...
Earth 2 involved a colonisation effort that ended up being one way but that was mostly due to the authorities having problems trying to secure sole access to the world they were heading to!
Unfortunately I have to pass on these ones, I did not read or see
any of them.
Are they mining the systems of these colonies or potential colonies to help finance their colonisation effort?
Not yet, and whether the colonists will start such a mining opera-
tion will depend on the decisions of the characters, it is more or
less up to them to determine the development of the colony with
their activities.
What else is there in the star systems these two worlds dwell within?
The Brahma System (= Beta Comae Berenices in our real universe)
has eight planets in my setting, two cold barren worlds, one planet
similar to Venus, the desert world Ashara, three hot barren worlds
and a small gas giant. The other system, where the Durani Colony
is situated, has not yet been designed in detail.
No, they would be much too expensive for the small Ashara Colony,
the power the colony needs is provided by a fission reactor and by
solar panels and wind turbines.
Do they have gas giants, will you be planning on making this humanocentric or is there other life out there?
There is the one gas giant mentioned above in the Brahma System,
I have not yet decided whether there will be a has giant in the Dura-
ni System.
At least at the beginning of the campaign there will be no intelligent
aliens in the setting, but this could change during the campaign - I
leave it open for now.
Sorry you caught my interest!
No problem at all, quite the contrary.
