Is this a typo in SFOS?

"Note: If a tanker is destroyed it will automatically explode as detailed on p9 of Book One. Tankers that are merely running adrift after being reduced to zero Damage will not explode in this fashion."

Should the last Damage read "Crew"? Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. 0 Damage is destroyed. What am I missing?

Exactly zero damage means the ship is more or less intact, physically. So long as you can do EXACTLY as much damage as it can take, it won't explode. But that's a clever trick..

Once a ship is reduced to zero damage you roll on the big boom table adding for each point beyond zero it is. Since it "automatically" explodes in this case, this is a contradiction. It suggests that if ever the table is used, it explodes.

Automatically EXCEPT at zero. Am I missing something?

A ship is not actually destrpyed at zero, it's like on the cusp of dead, held together by bulheads and hope, the minute it gets to minus one, then it's dead, so at zero it drifts, at minus one it automatically explodes. At least that is how I read it?

But you still roll on the boom table at zero - so there's still a chance it'll pop anyway.

Okay, at zero 1 in 6 of boom; at -1 and beyond automatic boom. Is that how you're reading it?

At zero, no boom. At -1 or below, boom. At 0 Damage, there is no chance of a Boom - boom starts at -4 (D6+ damage below 0).

I have to be missing something, this really can't be this hard?

At zero it can still be destroyed....

"When a ship's Damage score is reduced to 0, it is considered to be destroyed but the opoosing player must roll 1d6 on the chart below adding +1 for every point below 0 damaged ship has taken"

1-5 Adrift
6-9 Destroyed
10+ Boom

Ah' there it is - I get it now - if you roll a 6-9 it equals a 10+ (BOOM)

Sorry for the bandwidth. Sometimes I just have to work these things out.

Actually looking at this it does rather look like it is either a misspring and refers to crew or means that any 'destroyed' result on the 'boom table' results in an explosion. I'd suggest you sling this one over to rulesmasters to get an official answer on it personally.

in essence its simply easier to make it explode, since it happens on a 6-9 result also. which makes this possible, but not likely, at "exactly" 0 damage.
