So I have been playing for about 6 months and enjoy the Minbari the most, the combination of lethal weapons but brittle ships (I have played Minbari enough to know that if you get past stealth, they go pop very quickly--that 1 point less in hull to hit on almost every ship makes a huge difference)

My question is which do you think is more effective?

1) Sharlin, better range on main gun, Stealth and excellent Fighters, rear firing main weapon.

2 Tinashis, better attack dice (total of 8 AD SAP DD P B vs 6 AD on the Sharlin), better secodnary weapons: 8 AP MB TL in the forward Arc on each ship and 6 in every other Arc vs. the 8 AP MB in the each arc on the Sharlin. Moreover, the Tinahi is more manoverable and faster. Finally, the Tinashi is 1/2 the point value and has about 2/3 the damage rating.

In my games I don't think I have ever fielded a Sharlin, and will take 2 Tinashi's almost every time.

What do you think and did I overlook anything in my calculation?

I'll take the Sharlin, thanks. Better fighters, better main weapons and a better presence on the battlefield. It's also a much nicer model. The Tinashi is painful to look at... :?

I tend to avoid the Sharlin, in practise- the eggs-in-one-basket effect- also partly because I've seen a few of them rather badly mismanaged. They do tend to breed overconfidence in their owners, that can be a big levelling factor.
Well flown, I'd rate the Sharlin higher, but that doesn't always happen.

I agree with SNJ, and take 2 Tinashi's. Not only because you are putting all your eggs in one Basket, but also because you have actually broadened your attack arcs. It also helps in resisting flanking attacks, and increases your anti-fighters screen.

Wont vote.

Mostly because it depends on the rest of the fleet being chosen..... Going up against Crusade era EA at war lvl lets the picture look alot different from a 5 point raid tourney.

i'd say it would depend on priority level. at war level i'd take at least one Sharlin, but at battle i'd be more likely to take 2 Tinashi.

2 Tinashis. You get more flexability with them. Not to mention if you squadron them up, you get to fire that 8AD of beam all at once. :D

Yep!

Also, if you get one forward 4/6, you still get a forward weapon to fire...unlike the poor Sharlin

As has been pointed out, the choice depends on the circumstances, but I can't think of many situations where fielding at least one Sharlin would be a mistake. It's powerfully armed, well protected and brings a strong fighter complement to the table.

Stealth 5+ vs. 4+ is a big difference - as are all those fighters...plus the Sharlin looks so darn cool and demands respect!
The nice model of the Sharlin wins it for me every time. Always obey the rule of cool. 8)

Of course if Mongoose were to redo the fugly Tinashi model (hint, hint)....

Sharlin. The Tinashis split your weapons up a bit so you wont lose it all in one go but they dont have MUCH more firepower and the Sharlins superior stealth and nasty fighter compliment seal the deal for me.

Also its a freakin sharlin, quite possibly one of the coolest looking ships EVER. Nuff said ;)

Well other than looking like a gold fish that puked itself blue anyways.

For sexiness nothing beats out a G'Quan.

In a War level game, Sharlin. In a Raid or below, Tinashi. In Battle, maybe 1 Sharlin if you have at least 5 FAP's.

Yeh - Sharlins just dont fit into a raid level fleet. Having a maximum of 3 ships on the table doesn't do it for me in a 5pt game...

Tinashis are nice, but that 4+ stealth is a bit of a letdown, as is the complete lack of fighters.

Speaking of Tinashis... I still haven't got mine *looks around for Matt to whale upon*

Yeah, Battle or above I'll wedge a Sharlin into every fleet, it usually has that 'gulp' factor for your opponent. Though I do like to sub for a Neshatan against the Narn. Tinashi's are good ships, but I'm usually tempted to add a Morshin as a battle choice and relegate some Tinashis to their Ashinta variants. I'd certainly drop in a Tinashi or two into any fleet if I have a spare point or two in the bigger games.

However a Tinashi is better value than 2 Teshlans.
